I think if you are in to speed any two stroke bike is worth a glance . I hear Tecates are nortoriously unstabe at high speed . I would have to be the judge of that . Scince I havent ridden one .... I cant comment . But I have allways wanted one . Tecate is a name that was once very infamous . I'm not talking about that crappy excuse for a beer either ! LOL

well in my opinion i agree the 84/85 tecate's are unstable...compared to a Honda 250R

i remember riding a friends T-3 at Broome-Tioga and on the whooped up downhills i was scared to go as fast as i could on my R or my X for that matter. but to be fair it was all stock and my Trikes are set up for me

I love them! But the 84/85's have some draw-backs stock: 1) they are ugly as a mud fence. :-D 2) the 22x11-10 "balloon" tires out-back. 3) the short swingarm. 4) kind of tall seat height. and 5) narrow rear axle width. My opinion they had too much motor for their chassis in stock trim. I can sure see how a stock 84/85 would be "un-nerving" on an MX track when you were used to a race-prep'd R.

My 84 had a wider axle, +2 swingarm, and low profile rear tires. It was extremely stable at speed and would slide like it came with self-lubing tires. I could never do anything about the ugly! :D

86/87 Tecate is much better and i've seen no stability problems in stock form. I've felt pretty comfortable in some wide open drags once the wheelie tendency stops. might be different story peg'd in 5th through some narly whoops. I never enjoyed punishing my 3 wheelers like that.
