it was part of the frame/swingarm kit. made by Nicholson himself

i wish Billy still had the picture i sent him of his second generation 500X using 200X parts and bodywork. it was also raced by team Honda.

I'm not sure. but the carrier and disc look allot like 84/85 KXT. Though I think that article predates the Tecate?????? caliper is defintely not KXT.

I want to build one a local junkyard has got 2 82 250rs one is almost complet so i can get the front end off one of them cheap and i was think of using the total rear end off one of the bikes so i wouldnt have to buy a shock and axle. and find a bearing carrier

jeb the artical is from Dec. 82. like i said the carrier is made by Nicholson. if Billy still has it i also sent him a pic of the NIcholson advertisement for the frame. it shows the carrier in it. i'm not sure about the rotor but the caliper is a nissin/Honda

yeah but in the frame article all it says is the fame shock and swing arm for 625 it doesnt say anything about a carrier

MR ATC

trust me i'm the one that sent him the artical. the carrier is considered part of the swingarm. i remember when this frame came out and the advertisements the carrier was with it as a package.

Ok well thats cool thanks MR ATC for the help and say i was goign to build this what would i use as a bearing carrier then

MR ATC

use whatever carrier goes with the swingarm you plan to use. personally i would not recomend a 81/82 250R chassie as a starting point. if anything i would recomend a 83/84 250R or 85/86 350X if you are looking at an existing chassie to use. myself i would build it from scratch and use an 86 ATC 250R swingarm setup

Im going to build a chassis but i dont know what kinda of swing arm to use and shock the olny reason i was going to use the 81 r is cause i could get it chaep

MR ATC what about buying this from 200x basket and use it as a swing arm http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=11909

MR ATC

that would be a much better investment.

if you do get it to make the most of it try to put the top shock mount in the same position as on the 86 250R. getting the measurements won't be hard but if you can't i will try to get them for you myself

would it be beter to go with a exented arm or stock length

MR ATC
08-26-2003, 12:04 AM
personally i think 6" is too much, but for a 500 the stock 250R would be a little short for my liking.

Is the 305x and 250r arm the same length cause on HONDAATC its looks to be ok. But im going to build a frame so i dont know.

As crappy as mine is running (Carb related) I could tell that its definetly going to be wheelie happy with the stock 350X swingarm. I think a 2-3+ Would be about perfect.

Hey Honda where did you get your motor inlandatv has got a runner for 600 and its a 79 model i was think of making a 400 ofer to him but did you buy yours a a runner or did you rebuild yours.

Right this is what im think buy the front end off that 250r and rear brakes and then find a total complet rear end off the 86 250r or 85 and then get the motor. ANd what kinda of shcok would be the Best i see honda your useing a cr500 how much did that pretty one cost you.

I rebuilt mine. I had a motor I started off with that I got in a bunch of parts. And about 2 other motors later (Bought them mostly for other parts I needed) I got one running. My carb is utter garbage, and is why I'm not done. What makes it tricky is, the throttle control cables mount on the side of the carb, and my gas tank sits VERY close to the top of the carb now. So, I have to find another sidemount throttle controlled carb. Despite what some people say, the XR motor is ALOT larger then a 350X motor and even with my modified frame things are still very tight.

I'm not running CR500 setup yet unfourtantly...I got the Progressive shock on closeout from Dennis Kirk for $100 shipped to my doorstep which is a killer price, Progressive doesn't make those shocks anymore. I have the modifications to my CR500 inverted forks complete, but I haven't had the paitence to sit down and put them back toghether yet. Getting the dust seal and the oil seal for the forks into the housing on the out the outer-tube has proved to be a bigger chore then I had figured...

There was a brand new NOS 79 XR500 motor on ebay just a month or so ago that I personally bid on..but unfourtantly was outbid by about $10. It happens I guess. I think my top bid was like 550 or something, it went for close to $600. If you can find that auction I'd tell the guy at inland about it and show him a brand new NOS went for that, you should be able to get a used one for cheaper.

I think I will start this winter and gett most of the parts i need and start building it. hope fully I will have a motor by then and i can start making a frame for it. And i can build a rolling chassis the dissamble the motor and bore it out and put a bigger cam and some other stuff.
