I have lots of first hand info on Hatfield McCoy trails (Rockhouse trail system) and the town of Gilbert, WV.
To start, here is a link to excellent lodging for small or large groups. Trail system access is directly across the road.
http://www.thehatfieldhouse.com/
The contact person is Penny and I cannot say enough good things about her.
- Buys your trail passes and gets maps in advance so they are ready and waiting when you arrive - you pay her back for them when you get there.
- Will make a beer run into town for you if you have had too much to drink.
This is an ATV friendly town, meaning you can ride your trike to McDonalds or to the gas station or grocery store, etc. Wear a helmet and follow the posted speed limits and the police give you a friendly wave as you ride past their patrol car.

I was told that Hatfield McCoy would not allowed 3 wheelers. Is this not the case? My buddies have made the trip 3 or 4 times and they told me that it was only 4 wheelers.

burning rock is 8000 acres and 100 miles of trails. I think its 60.00 a year for non resident membership now. I just called to make sure that they still allow trikes and some one is suppost to call me back in the next few minutes to let me know

I spent a week at the Browning fork Trail house(Right on the trail head)& rode my SX all day & halfway into the night, I highly suggest going there. Very trike friendly.
Try www.browningforktrailhouse.com Find Marty Buckhannon, He's got great places right on the trail head. I had an absolute blast there 3 years ago.
Go there, You'll be really glad you did, you can ride on the streets there too, as long as you're respectful of others. Don't forget to wave at the local
Po Po, They're cool......

We just got back from our trip. We rode the trails for 3 days straight and rarely saw the same place twice. Our group had (3) 350X's, (2) 250R's, (2) 250 pinger bikes, and a cRaptor.
I was leading the pack most of the way. We were bombing the trails at a very high rate of speed and I nearly ran headlong into:
A goat
oncoming Cat D9 dozer
A black bear - I was a bit shaken over that one. The mama bear was unhappy about me nearly running over her cub.
It was as fun as any riding I have ever done. More to come on this topic.

Been to Rock House & Pinnical. Awesome trails and RH has great views. "3wheelers are allowed." I called and confirmed only because i didn't see any the entire time i was there. Looking to go again in late Sept/Oct & i will be brining my 200x.

I do the bed and breakfast deal....I'm into the whole no packing extra crap. Bike gear me and fuel...they do all the cooking, with laundry service and extra meals available. Not to mention the place had 2 6man hottubs and pressure wash area...the beds were Serta singles. You gotta shop around for accomidations, ask for pics...but you can find primitive to full down home feel with all the fixins...My 3 day weekend cost under $250 with ride pass two nights and 2 steak dinners.

I have been itching to go here for a couple years now. Don't know if it will happen this summer or not. I doubt they will move trikefest to this location because it is too far east. It would be cool if someone started a new annual trike event here though. Could call it Hatfield McTrikefest?

They have a big QUAD event at Hatfield McCoy each year - maybe we should plan on invading it with trikes next year........... I would be in on this. I think the event has something to do with Fischer's ATV world - lemme dig up the info and post it up!

Here are some pictures from the cabin.
Look closely and see the river in the background.
That is Garageboy34 and Flyin Bryan doing some brake work.
If your machine has a weakness, these trails WILL expose it.
They are rocky and rough and not for the faint of heart.
Sheer drops off the edge of thr trail (mountain) are the norm. Don't let that scare you.
Our wives did these (green) trails on TRX 250s last year. Just ride in control, know your limits, stay near your brakes, and stay off the black trails unless you are an expert,
I was afraid to take my camera on the trails due to loss or damage.
For example, at one point I rode a 350X under a ~20 foot waterfall.

WARNING: If you are coming from the north from Logan to Gilbert, DO NOT TAKE Rt. 10 / 80.
Use Rt.44 / 52. I cannot stress this enough - unless your last name is Knievel, do not take hwy. 10 out of Logan.
Rt. 10 / 80 is too narrow with a trailer. I have done it twice now and never will again.
One side of the road is a rock (mountain) wall, the other side is a cliff. Unless you don't mind looking out you rear view and seeing your trailer tires hanging over the edge.
The road is scarier than most trails. It is white knuckle, wipe sweat off hands, repeat....
