big red problem

I have a problem... I had my carburetor cleaned and rebuilt by a person on here and it some how is now leaking from the bottom bowl! I cant remember what its called.. Its like the drain for the bowl.. It has a screw on it... well gas was pouring out of it the other day. Only thing I can think of is that the float will not close or the screw in the bottom is not closing off all the way. What do yall think?

I have 2 fuel filters on it so I know it cant be dirty. I know the gas tank is not the cleanest I have clean out the peckcock filter about once a week it stop up.. but nothing nothing is getting to the 2nd filter so I know at lease its doing its job lol

Mine had a nasty glob of crap stuck to the end and wouldnt seat... Had to clean the taper off and replace the little oring that goes on the drain plug to get mine to quit leaking...

Thorp is right but also That screw you are talking about is the drain screw for the bowl, it is either loose or your float inside the bowl needs adjusting

OK thanks guys.. Im gonna shoot on the screw dirty... it didnt leak this bad but it did leak a little like drip once in a while... of course it could be the same drain screw messing up.

I picked up one of those atc 200 carbs off ebay and the damn thing does the same thing. Im unsure as to how to adjust the floats, never had to do it before

JUST slowly take the carb apart and take a close look and I am sure you can figure it out yourself,,thet are very simple really. Actually there is nothing to those carbs. I learned how to rebuild motorcylces ,ATCs etc when I was just about 15 and I learned on my own mostly.

i can rebuild a honda 200s carb real easy but the 250 big red carb is a totaly different animal.. Im gonna end up takeing it back to one of the guys on here to have him tune it up and get it purring like a kitten.

Im taking both my 250 big reds in next weekend for a pro to rebuild the carbs. Not sure how hard it really is, I also ordered two new floats as well to have replaced might as well anyway I figure. He says he would have to soke carbs for 3 days to clean and floats can typically go and well you have it apart why not.

If your gas tank is so dirty you have to clean the filter one a week you should really pull the tank off and clean it out, even f you just flush it out with a garden hose its going to be a lot better than it is now. Figure the screen catches the big stuff, but even the secondary filters are only good to 30 microns, but everything smaller still passes through into the carb. Not that it should cause the carb to leak but if your tank is that dirty it will be better for the machine to clean the tank.

There's a thread right now about rust holes in the tank, check it out, it also has a lot about cleaning and lining a tank, which sounds like yours needs.
