I looked over the state's website and it doesn't say anything about it so I figured I'd as it here. Am I allowed to ride with a passenger on state trails that are open to ATV's? I'd like to go to PA one weekend this spring and ride a state park with my wife and kids. I'd have to put one kid on a machine with me and one with my wife.

Unfortunately, my oldest is only 7 so she can't take the safe rider course to ride on her own until the very end of this year.
Thanks.

Hey John R,
I am 99.999% sure somewhere it states that you can not ride passengers unless it is an ATV designed for 2 up riding.

***EDIT - Found it - look at #2 on this list

It definitely does, but those are "tips", in this brochure that the state calls a "Summary of PA's ATV Law", it doesn't mention it at all.

Also, #2 on that list doesn't mention anything about the machine being designed for it or not, it also doesn't mention what constitutes being designed for two up riding. Not trying to be argumentative at all Tim, just trying to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for your help so far.

I want to agree with atctim. I thought I read somewhere that you can only ride 2 up on an atv as long as it's desiginated as a 2 up.

Yeah, while I haven't seen that explicitly mentioned I think its safe to assume that. I have to call the state and ask them what the law is and what constitutes a 2 up machine. Its funny that there is kind of a double standard because snowmobiles aren't required to prove their ability to carry two people safely. My big 4x4 quad is just as capable of carrying two as the average snowmobile.

Check out this place as an option coming to Pa. I live 5 mins from it and it is pretty sweet. They even had some quad nationals there. 90 miles + trails

Thanks for the info. I saw that place over on a quad site I visit but its too far for a day trip with the kids.
