My Tecate project just rolls along.I am at the point where I need to work on the suspension,my rear shock is gone, the seals leak, nitrogen is gone, I would either like to rebuild it, or replace with a new one. What options do I have, is there a newer qaud that the rear shock will work on my Tecate,or is there a maker of seals kits for the Tecate rear shock still around. My swinger is all stock.

Morning, I am willing to bet that shock uses a standard seal unless someone here has replaced one in the past chances are you will need to take the shock apart to measure the old seal, here are a few vendors I know of that sells seals http://www.factoryconnection.com/oilSealOne.htm and http://www.racetech.com/page.aspx?id=71&menuid=58

If you cant find someone local to service it let me know I will CSI it for you but I am willing to bet a local shop that regularly services shocks will have the parts in stock, you might talk to your local bike/ATV shop and ask who the local shock guru is then go to them, around here most shops only service shocks on stuff under warranty and wont touch them once out of warranty.

I would remove the spring and clean the shock up as best as you can dont take it to them all oiled or greased up and dirty lol

Keep in mind if it turns out the shaft is bad their is company's that can re chrome the shaft...

Good luck

In this thread I located this statement, has anybody here actually tryed this, and if so, what mods are needed?

I read a post where a guy put a Banshee rear shock on his LT250R so I believe my assumption about a rear 1985-90 Suzuki LT250R shock working on a Tecate 3 is correct. The shock is like 1.5 inches longer and you could drill the bearing sleeve out to fit the tecate bolt.

I bought a 2001 Raptor shock for mine. It's about one inch longer, but fits in just fine. No mods are needed for the bottom mount, but the top will need either a sleeve in the shock eye to use the stock tecate bolt, or the shock mount holes drilled to use a Raptor bolt. I'm trying to find a sleeve, or something along those lines so I don't have to molest the frame. The problem is, there is so little play, It's tough to find something that will work. I was kinda thinking of filling the shock eye with JB weld or something similar then drilling it out to size. Oh, btw, I've got the shock turned upside down because the rezzie hose is so short.

I downloaded the service manual and it shows how to change the oil in the shock, the shock looks complete serviceable to me I would take it apart and get the numbers off the seal and measure the seal OD and thickness, you measure the shaft to get the ID then find seals, you could replace the seals fill with oil then take to local stealer for the nitrogen charge.

All Balls sells a complete seal head kit. Contach SBLT500 on here...he's rebuilt several '86/'87 T-3 shocks and has all the parts in stock. He can re-charge the nitrogen too.

I purchased the Moose Racing seal kit and rebuilt the shock myself. It has a Progressive springs on it.I also cleaned and serviced the resevior as well, install 67ml of oil in the rese, and 155ml in the shocks itself, then sent it to my local cycle guy for a nitrogen charge-the charge in manual says 142-but there is room to increase for ride weight, etc, whats the pressure you guys run in your shocks?I am 6-4 230 pounds and ride rocky, hilly terrian, alot of tight trails in soem cases.
