WOW!! Its like the last fiber plate just sheared it all off! Did the screws back out??
Looks like a well worn clutch with plenty of use based on the notches in the pic.............
Bryan Raffa will be here to comment soon!
I think SPROCK makes an upgraded clutch basket, let the Z owners chime in on that or ATC-ERIC. They may use your gear and pin it somehow to the new basket HONDA250SX would know too (Jeff), he is probably running one.

So this is what happened. I just rebuilt the bike over winter and took it out for the break-in ride. We rode for 4 hours straight going down some crazy trails. My cousin was on a lifted tricked out quad and decided to try and go up this crazy ditch. I go off my bike and left it running while helping him get the quad out since it bottomed out. I went to get back on it and had no resistance on the clutch lever so I had him push me and I put it into first just to get it back home. Next I shut it down and adjusted the clutch all the way and it had some resistance. When I went to start it up and put it into gear I could hear ticking as I pulled the clutch in.

center nut come loose on the basket? allowing it to slide outwards? what does the clutch boss look like? did the ears where the spring bolts break off?

Yes the center nut came loose and fell off. The clutch boss and pressure plate are still good along with the springs and ears.
So that center nut keeps everything aligned?
I posted how to install the clutch basket that Sprock makes.

If I were to take a guess, you either shattered a fiber plate and it beat the basket up (Which I have done before on a Z and it never beat the basket up), or The center boss sleeve and bronze bushing are very worn causing excess vibration, or even the mainshaft bearing for that input gear cluster is loose or worn. Or were both large thrust washers installed on the basket? If one was missing, that would cause vinration and extra end play.
I have also seen the kickstart idler pulleys fall off and damage baskets like that, particularly on Banshees and Tri-Z's because they use the same floating idler gear setup for the kicker.
Just my guess.
Edit...The center nut, should have not come loose. Was the reataining lock washer installed and bent over to lock the large nut? If so, I would look for loose bearings and parts that caused the nut to vibrate loose.

did you have the lock washer on under the nut? it goes. washer ,basket, washer, boss,Lock washer,Nut, plates, pressure plate, springs, bolts.
and that big nut get tourqued at 48pnds then bend the washer over.

The big nut didn't come loose it has a lock washer on it. The nut that came loose was the one that goes threw the center of the pressure plate.
