I came across this site while researching my 1985 250ES Big Red. I got the Big Red a couple of years ago, but before that it had sat for several years with the gas in it. As you can imagine, the carb was in bad shape so I cleaned and rebuilt it. Following the rebuild the Big Red fired right up and ran, but it seems to idle too fast and it fouls plugs quite often. The plugs get a lot of carbon build up on them within just a few hours of riding. I was wondering if the problems with my carb were causing problems with my plug or if they are unrelated issues. Either way I am trying to find some advice on what the next steps of action should be.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Id readjust the carb and make sure it has the proper fuel/air mixture

carbon build up on spark plug can be caused by weak ignition- test your coil, plug wire and cap
