get a piece of wood like a broomstick or a 3/8 extension if you stay away from the sparkplug and put it up to your ear.
put the other end on various places on the engine
i did that to mine and found out that the gblessed headlight had the perfect resonant buzzrattle/
yea, do the timing chain check/adj and see if there is any kind of time to the sound or is it constant or cyclical like whirring.
there is also a headpipe exhaust spit that really CAN sound like a mechanical engine noise

I have what sounds like the same thing on my 200s. It runs great though. If you are able to diagnose this let me know. I would love to make it run quieter.

my computer is running win 98 so I
can't really do much but I guess
it's real easy to upload an audio file.
a cheap tape recorder microphone and almost any
software that come with your os.
Maybe we can start a separate area for uploaded engine sounds and
offer prizes .
people with real computers (newer than 10 years) seem to make youtube work somehow.
I DO think an audio archive would be very helpful.
Let's figure out got to make that happen.

Have you adjusted the valves recently? If not, it is worth the effort. It will make a great running engine, run even better.

Yeah, might be time to do a tuneup. Make it run for another 30 years :)
