View Full Version : 1985 ATC350x front suspension rebuild
Went to the englishtown swap meet over the weekend and found two forks for my 350x. I was wondering if anybody knew the exact amount of transmission fluid you are supposed to refill them with? I am going to put in new seals. Also any tips? Thanks in advance.

I went with 15 wt fork oil (Belray if I remember correctly). A single quart container was enough to fill both tubes to the recommended level with a little to spare. The manual says to fill up to within 8.5 inches from the top of the tube with the fork collapsed (spings removed).
It isn't too bad of a job, but it will be a lot easier if you have 90 degree nose snap ring pliers. The top snap ring is tough to get to with straight in snap ring pliers.
Also, if you are really wanting to play around, the damping tubes (pistons) from the 83-84 250R forks will bolt into your forks and give you better damping characteristics as well as almost an inch more travel. You use all of your original 350x fork parts except the damping tubes. I did the mod (learned about it on the other 3 wheeler forum) and it really feels nice. The original forks feel very springy and undamped. The mod'ed forks seem much less bouncy.
Nice, thanks for the info. I repack forklift cylinders so I have a few different 90 degree snap ring pliers. The 250r mod sounds like it would benefit me, but a limited budget right now means no lol. Thanks again
