does the air cooled 250r have any advantages over the liquid cooled?

i have the chance at a 84 250r for 700 bucks, but i really wanted a liquid R, so does the 84 have any advantages that will help convice me?

Not that I have anything against the air cooled machine. Matter of fact, I actually want another one, just not instead of our liquid R's.

I saw one here as well. I think a guy had better be prepared to sink a lot of money into that bike if he wants something that looks good and is reliable. Maybe its better than it looks in the pictures? If you get it, hope its a good deal for you.

you can bore the cases and put in a CR480R top end. Kind of overkill, but awesome.

UncleBubbles, I was looking at that ad, but not the actual bike. I brought it up on this forum and someone pointed out to me that it was air cooled and that they thought it was pretty beat looking. You'd better give it a real going over to see if its worth it. I could see spending a lot of money if the engine, bearings, shocks are all shot, the frame beat up, plastic all broken, etc. I'm not saying its that way, I'm just saying approach with caution.

its early in the season, i have to throw money at my 250es, and i spotted a yamaha under a tarp with 3 flat wheels that i may get a real good deal on, so i may not even call about that R just yet. but the suggestion about the 480r top end, what all has to be done?

Bigbore has put the whole 480 motor in a 1st and 2nd gen 250r, he sells a kit that has everything you need to put the whole cr motor in.
