ok did some searching but my attention span is equivalent to that of a gnat ! so i gotta post a new one, sorry anyway any reccomendations on carb kits, i need one and am just wondering which to go with, after reading some old posts im a little worried, wrong jets in kit , poor performance after new kit , ect.
so my question is, what kit should i get ? and with a new filter and carb kit am i ready to ride or will i need to trial and error with the jets ? i have a weekend riding trip coming up and want to b ready , thanks in advance, oh , my machine is an 86 200x , if that makes a difference in brand.

trial and error is the only way you can guarantee, no jet kit can be perfect because in a way every machine is different.

i would like to just buy a new carb ......buuuuuuut i also want to learn a thing or two ive done things the easy way for too long and havent learned much that way but thanks for your reply. wait , wouldnt a new carb have the same issues, as most machines fuel air ratio could b slightly different which would affect the jetting? im not trying to b a smart@ss just genuinely curious maybe a new carb is the way to go ?

I have had to do this on several bikes in the past. As long as your bike is relatively stock, it should not be a problem to get a kit, install it, tune the motor and everything should be good. If its been bored a lot, like an oversize thats bigger then a factory honda oversize piston that honda sold in the past then you may have to experament alittle with the jetting. Usually a stock engine, mild to mid exhaust and a stock sized carb a standard carb kit should work fine. I have had great luck with the kits form Moose. They seem to sell everything for most 3 wheelers and quads. These bikes are older, and over the years a lot of people that dont really know what they are doing have had the chance to crack open the carb and change things around. Cleaning your jets also has to be done the right way. Doing the strand of copper wire trick should be a last resort. Compressed air and gasoline as a cleaning solvent works best, and will not damage the inside if the jets. There are times though that its a friday night, the bike shop is closed and you cant get the parts you need, and of course thats when there seems to be concreet stuck in the pilot jet and you have to stick a piece of wire up in there to clean it out, it can score the inside of the jet and can effect the running of the engine. Morotcycle engines are very sensative to adjustments, its a bit of an art really. Much more sensative then a car or truck engine, but easier to work on. You can try the clip position too for a slight adjustment if needed. Ususally the stock settings, stock parts on a stock motor you should be fine. Its also good to adjust the valves, I believe the 86 200x has an automatic cam chain adjuster, but if not thats always good to adjust.

great input 350x thanks bra! im pretty sure the valves need some attention my machine is smokin like a hippy at a hacky sack festival ! but it didnt really smoke before it sat for a yr or so , maybe just from sitting iv changed all the fluids and cleaned the carb a few times.

I heard when at my local HONDA dealer that some of the valves for the 350x are now discontinued-might want to look into your ride.
