I'm trying to remove the left side (shifter side) on 250sx. Shop manual says to first remove the starter reduction plate and gears. Mine is stuck bad, pounded and pryed w/no luck. Dose this have to come off first? Also says to loosen all motor mounts and raise motor. I took off the skid plate and put a jack under motor w/ bolts all loose, still won't clear. I've had lots of dirt bike side plates and quads apart, Never was the frame in the way!!!

Starter Motor and foot peg have to come off for sure as well but if I recall correctly, the starter reduction cover mainly holds those gears in place and if you could get the cover off the gears would pull right out that opening. I think you could safely remove the side case with the reduction cover in place if you're real careful... might want to bind up at the top if you can't pull the cover straight out. Usually you have to cock them at an angle for frame clearance to get them off... that's how the right side cover is anyway! Shouldn't be an issue if you have the motor on the bench though. A few more millimeters of engine to frame clearance would have been nice for the engineers at Honda to give us for sure; don't know what they were thinking there!

Someone please email me diagrams for 250sx starter. Mine is fried, but i have a spare one that works good but the teeth are ground from trying to start the seized engine it came out of (not by me ) So i want to switch the bad gear/teeth from the working starter with the good gear/teeth from my fried starter. is it possible and if so any advice?
