I just changed my oil for the first time on my 400. It went well until the last cm or so in my funnel didnt fit into the engine. I started it up today and rode it around. Stopped it and checked the oil....All the way to the top of the dipstick(over the "full" line to the actual top of the stick) Waht is wrong??

Did you drain the oil tank?

you need to drain the crank and the oil tank, 2 different bolts will need to be removed for an oil change on a 400ex. so now drain both and change again. u just added oil to already dirty oil that was in the tank. find a manual for exact info and such but i just unbolted the oil line going from the tank back into the engine because the drain bolt at the bottom of my oil tank broke on mine.

Also in the owners manual it specifies that you warm up the engine for about five minutes then shut it off, wait a few minutes and then check the oil level. Following this procedure will make a difference in the oil level versus just checking the dipstick on a cold engine.

If you need a service manual get in touch with monroe mike for the online version it's free yet it's also priceless!

Those oil tanks can throw you off if you are not used to them. I had to read up on the procedure when I first got my KFX 400 as it is the same way where you drain both the engine and oil tank. But there is no fill spot on the engine itself. You just fill the oil tank.
