My back has been bothering me for about a month and a half now, so I finally went to the doc. He sends me to neurologist, who sends me for a couple of mri's, we all know the deal, lol. S o he gets back to me with mri results, and aparently I have a number of old fractures in my spine. Ok I broke my back and never knew it? Worst part is that he is having a surgeon from St. Lukes hospital in Easton Pa. call me because I have an "abnormality" in my spinal cord. WTF. has any body been thru anyting similar because i am scared outta my head. I could use some input from someone who has dealt with something similar. Thanks.:(

Something similar - should help ease your worries I hope. My father has had back problems most of his adult life. He has had 3 back surgeries. Mostly compressed disks and bone fragments breaking off and getting lodged in the disks. A few months ago - he started to get a really bad stiff neck that would not go away. After MRI - it showed two upper disks were pressing on his spinal cord. Sounds super bad right? Well it was an out patient surgery. They went in through the front of his neck and removed bone spurs and added a plate. He was walking and talking and eating just 2 hours after surgery.

The point I am making is that back and spine surgery has came along way in the past 20 years. I hope it is something they can fix on you fairly easily. Seems so many terrible sounding diagnosis are often cured with one day out patient surgery these days. Let us know how you make out!

I know the scared feeling. When I found out I fractured mine, I felt a little better after talking with my Dr. I had a compression fracture in my T7 vertebra. They wanted to do a proceedure where they drill a small hole, and inject a "cement". This is suppost to speed up the recovery time. Or, I could take 3-4 months off, no lifting. I said I would try the 3-4 month thing first.
It is very common in athletes. And they also told me the same thing that it could have been new, or been there for 10 years. They will probably give you an MRI and maybe a bone scan.

I didn't know mine was there until I went to my chiropractor. When the adjustment hurt like heck, we knew something was wrong and did x-rays. When they told me it was broke I was freaking out. Like I said, until I saw my regular doctor. I hope this helps to ease your mind a little. It will heal. Maybe not 100% but it will get better.
What do they mean by abnormalities? I have a false joint too, which they told me about with the x-rays, but I was born with it. Can't do anything about that one. The good news is, they said I will never slip a disc in that area.

He really didnt elaborate on abnormality, all he asked is if i was having any trouble going to the bathroom lol. Im guess ing it has to do with the nerves in th ecord that have to do with that. Thanks guys.

I broke my back october of 08 in a quad crash, 3 vertbree were broken and they had to do surgery to stabilize it so it wouldent cause spinalcord damage, in all reality it wasent that bad. i also learned i have scoliosis that day too, gotta have surgery on that octoberish. i was in nthe hospital 6 days.
i have also had many foot surgeies due to a foot disability. in total i have had 8 surgeies and have spent over a year of my life in a wheelchair, still have 2 more planned.
surgery is not that bad at all. dont sweat it man, it could be worse.

if it has any thing to do with nerves going to your stuff dont ignore it. a guy here at work did and he kept sitting hours on end. if he would sit he stuff went numb...doc said it was badly damage nerves around the end of the spine. he ended up stand to work 8 hours a day after then.

hope you find out what everything is and get some good knew. i fractured my neck when i was 14 and ripped ever muscel on the right side of my neck and they said i'd never ride again. i proved them wrong, years later had a very bad prostate problem at age 18 and could sit...said id never ride again and i did.

dont let them scare ya but ask every question u can think of.

i have been told i wouldent be able to ride, well i ride everyday for the mostpart. doctors dont know because the only riding they see is stuff on tv and it makes it look soo extream.
dont let doctors scare you, i have been in the hospital more than 75 times and i have learned they really dont know. most doctors sugar coat everything and sound very confident and all knowing, but they are only human too, no one knows everything

Mr_RPM is right on. The doctors have to give you their worst case scenerio. I have rode bulls for the last 17 years, had my face rebuilt, plate in my arm, and last summer they had to remove my guts twice because a bull stepped on them and turned them into fettachini. The first surgery didn't work, Doc said he'd hafta go in again & he would just do the best he could (about a 30% chance), 'call your kids & tell em' you love em.' Doctors are incredible, I flat-lined twice (the surgery took 2 hrs. longer than expected) and he just kept shocking me back, he repaired a pancreas that was nearly riped in half. He (Dr. Mortinson), literally, came out of surgery skipping and clapping. Your in good hands Greiver430x! (And just post for everyone to thow up a quck prayer for ya, trikers in numbers.)

My back always hurts.....

After a stuck throttle on a CR250, it's never been the same; That broke my tailbone so church or court (hard seats) hurt like hell! Fortunately I usually avoid both, sorry god........

Anyhow, although it hurts quite often, it doesn't stop me from riding and enjoying the things I love. The MRI says deviated disc there, lesions here, compression fracture there and misalignment of my spine. But, it's all fine; Just takes warming up to be AOK.......

I'm also severely "flat footed" and or "out toed" so I'm constantly smashing my little toe into doorways and I walk like Daffy Duck :)

All these injuries catch up with us when were older and we aren't athletes making millions. So, it its what it is.

I hope your AOK and don't have any further complications. Do you remember when you initially hurt your back??

I have no idea when I did it DC it always hurt a little because I suffer from S.T.A. ( also known as Serious Tank Ass lol) So I always figured from bein a big guy your joints are gonna ache from the extra weight, I just woke up morning with some lower back pain and it been getting worse. After going to the neurologist he made it seem like there were some symptoms that I was experiencing but didnt chalk it up to my back. Sometimes my legs would feel real heavy, which I figured was from more exercise than usual. Also I feel like I gotta pee all the time but I dont, really dont gotta go, I chalked that up to the water pills Im on for my blood pressure. What made me get checked out was when I started to get a Terrible pain from my lower back all the way down and through my left leg, When that happens I wanna curl in a ball and die that bugger hurts like hell. Thanks for the input guys, and I talked to my regular doctor today and he said I might not actually have to get surgery. He said that the neurologist will send me to the surgeon to be evaluated for the whole benefit vs risk thing so I hope it all goes well. from what I hear about St. Lukes it supposed to be an excellent facility with great doctors so I think im in good hands.

3 slipped disks and a pinched nerve in the neck here. hurts like heck sometimes when the disk actually is touching the nerve. alot of you folks have had some sort of spinal surgery (sounds like). if you knew then what you know now, would you have opted for the surgery, or just dealt with the pain? would chiropractics help or hurt in this particualr situation?

^ All I can say that avoiding any spinal surgery unless needed is best.....

Even a chiropractor thats a family friend told me that the sooner they get working on you, the easier it is to fix. I told him my injury was 8 yrs. old and he said, that may take allot of work to get you back on track. He's too far from me to even to go to him so I believe what he said.

I have had clomid prescribed to me but I didn't take it. I ended up getting pregnant on my own after losing some much needed weight. However, good friends of ours were ready to start having children & she couldn't get pregnant on her own. She was on the maximum level they give you & in March she got pregnant and is due December 10. So, keep the faith I'm sure it's upsetting when you are wanting a baby so badly. Just try to relax & don't give up hope that the meds will work.Good Luck!

:wonderingHUH? I already have two kids my back is messed up.
