i dont know but i think its because master links are a weak spot and if a cam chain had one and it let lose the link would surly ruin something .. just my guess

I saw on a youtube video, where the guy just grinds off one end of a pin, and to put it back together, spot welds it. A mig would work well for that.

You can get a masterlink for that size chain I would NOT use it on a cam chain though. Let alone if it came apart, clearance issues may be another problem.

It's not that hard to change the timing chain. A shortcut will only cause problems down the road.

I agree with the last part but....whataya mean it's not that hard?!?
Actually, Honda, or maybe it was a aftermarket guy, on the 83-84 and 83-86 V-45 and V 65 Magna street bikes sold a timing chain kit that did come with master links so you did not have to pull the heads to replace the chains.
Found that on a V-4 honda forum.
Not sure if they have them still or not, but worth checking, and I bet the chain is the same width and style as a hond ATV timing chain.
But depending on the machine you are working on, they are not that bad to change with the OEM equipment.

One of the companies from back in the day had a master link for their timing chains and I believe it was BAPP . I'll have to check my bin to be for sure .

Ok, thanks shortline! What i need to replace the chain on is a '74 cb350Four. Without a joiner wouldn't you have to split the cases to change the timing chain?
