Here are a few pics of my current project. I bought the bike for 400 loonies..lol, with papers. It had a leaking tank, broken seat pan, axle hubs were welded on, bearings were rough and no brakes. Typical 28 year old ATC. Over all its in good shape, frame is clean and it didn't seem to see alot of abuse. It had no suspension up front so I bought another 185 from a friend for near nothing, it ran but was tapping bad from being wheelied too often. I used the seat and added a new cover, the front end and axle and hubs. I'll also will use the newer style airbox so I can use the UNI filter I ordered. I'll have to mod the frame so It can work but thats no problem. I also bought a replacement tank and Jardine exhaust on Ebay, added a XR250R headlight and replaced the chain and sprockets with an O ring and 12/44 gears. That just about brings me up to date.

This bike is just a toy, I don't ride alot or far but when I do I like to have fun. I decided to freshen up the topend and add a few horses. I've been asking alot of questions on here and you guys have been great. I'd like to hear your feedback and suggestions, however I already know most of you think I'm wasting my time.

I pulled the motor today and had a few parts arrive.

MSR bars
Barnett clutch springs
gaskets
Wrist pin
UNI filter

XR 200 piston, XR200 cam and valve seals should be here first of the week.

I borrowed a 200X carb and manifold to try on the motor when its built.

Once I took the motor apart I realised I need to replace the intake valve. Its worn, will I need to have the seat machined? Or can I get away with just replacing. You can feel a sharpe edge on the actual vavle seating area on the vavle but not on the vavle seat in the head. I'm going to check the clutch fibers and steels tomorrow.

I really want to do a complete tear down by sandblasting and painting everything but I have too many other things on the go. However I am going to remove the tires and sandblast the rims. Any suggestions on rim color.. I really like the old gold rims. Gold rims with a dark grey or black hub.

you might get by with just lapping the new valve.

In the manual it says not to lapp valves, the valves are coated and lapping will lead to almost instant failure...

made it up, just being silly. Honda uses the R alot when they refer to a particular model as a Racer.

It's alive and man it sounds good. I've got no wheels on it so I can't take it for a rip. I sandblasted the rims and painted them gold. I'll mount the tires tomorrow.

Yesterday, I assembled the motor and put it in the frame. I ran into a problem with the 200x carb and manifold, it had too much of and angle on it and it was hitting the frame, So I ran it with the stock carb. I jetted it with a 115 main and the needle is 1 away from full rich or the bottem grove. It sounds good, I started it a few times, let it warm up, then cool down. Jetting might still be off, Idles well though. Anyone have a better idea where to start with the jetting?

Today I ran around trying to pickup some vavles stems and searching for an O ring for the 2 peice rim. I managed to find some rubber that a hydraulics place uses to make custom O rings and bought that. I'll glue it together and use some silicone on it. I modified the frame to fit the 83 airbox, frame is an 82. I also made a rear grab bar out of some 1.5"x 3/16 flat bar and 1" steel tube. Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day and pics to follow.
