how is a 250 tri z compared to a 85-86 honda 250r? like power wise?, parts availability?, good trail bike?
i got a ragged out 82 250r right now and a friends wants to sell me his z , he says its nice, red and white and has a full fmf exhaust on it.
how would the z compare to my 82 r?

tri z is nicer machine then the first gen r imo....but not better then the 3rd gen r. but to each his own you know. everyone has their preference. as for parts availability id say about the same. tri z parts may be a lil more scarce then the 1st gen r's but there both hard to find imo. 85-86 250r has the most parts support by far. as for a better trail bike once again im sure ppl will say there is a better one but it really does come down to preference.

uhhh, no its not.....bout the same actually. if i remember correctly, the Gen 2 Tecate was the king of all out speed, the R was in the middle and the Tr-Z was the tourqiest of the 3, but only a couple MPH slower than the R, if that......the 3 were very comparable for all intents and purposes. i own/love my honda too, but it doesnt mean its some un-natural, super achieving giant killer just because it says "HONDA" on the tank
but to the OP: a 3rd gen R vs a Tri-Z is a tough call. i think it comes down to personal preference and brand loyalty/preference

the r aint faster than a tri-z. the tri-z is actually a little faster than a r. I would trade, in my opioion the tri-z's are way better. you can get lots of parts for them. they are as good of a trail bike as a r. they work really good and have lots of power.

i have seen it go both ways between the 2, but i also never said there was anything bad about the ol Z's. dont get your feathers ruffled :beer but i do agree, a trading the ol Air Hammer R for the Tri-Z would be a trade up
