just picked up a GREAT 350x out of dallas (drove 6 hours one way to get it) i know it runs right and no smoke or any mechanical engine or drivetrain problems. had him drive it into the bed of my truck so i know im doing something wrong. i have never driven a anything with a clutch so im learning. i can get it started and it will stay idling but once i pull the clutch and put it in gear it runs until i let go of the clutch. then it lunges and dies. am i doing something wrong?

Release the clutch slowly and give it some gas while releasing the clutch you will get a feel for it.. If you just let the clutch out and give it no gas at all it will stall out. As soon as you start leting the clutch out you will feel it start to want to move.. At that point give it a little gas and keep releasing the clutch.

No problem.. Take it slow and remeber to pull the clucth in to shift and to stop.. Seen way to many peope hit the side of the barn literally because they forgot to pull in the clutch.. you'll get won;t take you long..

why to stop? the brakes alone arent good for stopping? how high is to high of a rev to shift

i mean when you want to come to a complete stop.. as riding you need to pull the clucth to shift gears and you can use the gears to slow down as well. but a complete stop you need to pull the clutch in or make sure your in neutral otherwise you'll keep stalling it out. You will stall it out aot to start till you get used to it. but once your used to it you'll love it..

Not to be rude but i think this is someone just trying to be funny. this post cant be serious. how could this person know a 350x let alone a nice one and not know atleast how it works? I mean if he cant get used to it thats different but twitch dosent even seem to know how a clutch operates. If this post is for real what have you ridden before?

a 350x is hardly the trike to learn on, IMO
1. Use the clutch between EVERY shift
2. When ever the bike is stopped/stopping, Pull the clutch and/or put it in neutral.
I just taught my son to ride and it took him about 15 mins before he was tooling around the yard

not the best trike to start learning how a clutch works imo...

not a joke at all. ive really never rode anything with a clutch. the only thing ive known about them is that it dis engages the motor from the tranny temporarily. i played around with it today and im starting to get used to it. getting used to keeping the rpms up while letting out of the clutch is my problem its hit and miss right now.

You'll get it.. Soon it will be just like breathing.. You won;t even think about it. Glad to hear you got it moving under it's own power now.

You sure picked quite the trike to learn on haha (I learned to drive a manual car in my first BMW M3 so I understand....). Whenever you are coming to a stop or starting out you HAVE to pull the clutch in other wise it will die, basically think of it as the wheels are directly connected to the engine and whenever the wheels are slowing or stopping the engine will too, unless you pull the clutch which "disconnects" the wheels from the engine so the wheels can be stopped and the engine still going. And as far as knowing when to shift....I don't really know how to explain that I've always just "known" when to shift, it's a gut feeling for most of us. I recommend that you start it, leave it in neutral and VERY slowly let the clutch out until you start to feel the trike want to move and then pull the clutch back in, do this quite a few times so you can feel where the engagement point is on the clutch and work from there. That way when you know where it starts to engage you can start to give it gas and make it easier on yourself. And easy on the throttle, the 350x is a wheelie machine!

"you're gonna put your eye out kid"
easy on the gas that thing WILL throw you off.
