My 6 hp short shaft motor quit out on me yesterday and my dad has a long shaft 9.9 that i want to throw on it for next weekend. If not its going to suck with an old 3 hp on it. Would it hurt anything if i do this?

Prop will be farther into the drink... Other than that it shouldnt hurt any...

To make it a short shaft all you need to do is drop the bottom end, loose the middle peice and the exstension peice on the downward drive shaft and you will have a regular length "short shaft".

It's not that easy on a 9.9 Johnson/Evinrude. You will need a different drive shaft, lower shift rod and cut the water tube 5" shorter. On small boats/motors using a long shaft on a 15" transom really isn't a problem except you might see a little extra spray, with larger boats/motors I've seen the motors push up enough water to make the boat start sinking.

Oh wow, glad you said something Xman. I thought it would be like the couple 20/25 horse long shafts I had done. Those where mid to late 1960 Johnsons.
Whoops.

Oh Sht forgot to mention its a yamaha 9.9. Im kind of hesitant on it cuz its putting out about 20-22 hp due to some mods by my dad.

20-22 hp sounds like even more of a reason to strap it on!

i got it sitting on the boat right now. My dads out there looking at it pondering something in his head. I hope hell let me put it on next weekend because going half the speed of smell is no fun.
