Are there any atv trail systems that have 100's of miles of trails like snowmobiles?

Having been out of riding 3 wheelers for 18 years now,im now in the process of restoring a low hour 86' 350x.i rode a 85 tri z,but now own a few snowmobiles,and for those of you who never ridden on a trail system,here in wisconsin,we have fully marked,signed,color maps and gps trails that cover over 25,000 miles of trails,more than all the paved roads.there are gas stops,hotels,food,bars,and repair shops everywhere.you can ride from state to state[michigan and the u.p.,minnesota,north dakota,canada, etc.... I was just wondering if there are any states out there with any plans to link other trails to theirs.ive been in a snowmobile club for many years now and we work with the d.n.r.,private land owners who let us use their land for a trail.no off-trail riding,just in certain areas,but we can cover 200-300 miles per day on a sled.i know that a lot of miles on a 3 wheeler,but im sure a 150 mile day is possibile,providing that there a fuel stops along the way.its just that you load your bike,find a spot to ride,ride for awhile,load up,head home.it would be awesome if we could ride from one part of the country to the other,or just some long distance traveling without leaving our wheelers seat.bring extra gear,emergency fuel, etc... And go for awhile. Atvs are now outnumbering snowmobiles in registrations and popularity so im sure this is just a matter of time.i will be joining an atv club here in the northwoods soon,so hopefully ill know more soon.

hey JEFFS86350x: being a sledder, (avid sledder myself) im sure you have heard of the "Tug Hill" region in north/central NYS??? they are currently working on developing the ATV trail system there. That is the area Chillian is referring to....

The biggest problem linking atv trails together is the fact that we ride when the farmers have their crops in the ground. Many snowmobile trails use farmers land to interconnect in the "off season" which is during the winter. Michigan has many miles of orv trails to enjoy, but still is far behind the amount of legal snowmobile trail networks that exist. And the fact that sleds dont shift the frozen ground around as much as atv's do when the dirt is loose.

Man the snowmobile trail on the 200X are a blast in winter. Packed down, banked and covered in snow. No one rides them all week long and really they only get a few sled on Saturday.

Not to argue but sleds tear up the trails because we haven't got much snow in a while. People want to ride so bad they ride on only a few inches and the skis, studs and paddles tear up snow until they hit dirt.

not sure exactly where sugar camp is but by me there is hunderds of miles of trail. Alot of it is old rail road bed but there is alot of nice trails in the woods. Some belongs to the dusty trail system that is the one I live on. Send me a pm and get my # if you want to go riding. Do a search on here for pipeline, Suring and see some pics of some trails we ride on. You can ride for hours and hours in one direction all on marked atv trail. also all the towns around me, made all there roads marked atv trails to now.

to kinda stray off of WHERE there are trails but about them what are some of your guys opinions as to taking the 3 wheeler for a long trail ride? obviously you will be encountering tons of different terrain but how does a 3 wheeler stand up with the 4 wheelers especially the 2 and 4x4s? i was thinking about taking my ES up state and going on some long runs but everyone im going with is telling me not to on a 3 wheeler but they all have 4 wheelers so how could i know whats really true?

Man there's really nobody up here. Pretty much 90% of the sledders either stop around Cadillac or just keep going across the bridge for more snow. Plus I used to work at the the state park where I ride the snowmobile trails and I know the DNR who work there.

Hey rbaral233, We all here have ridden hundreds of miles on 3 wheels, I would put a 3 wheeler up agaist any quad for almost any condidtion. In fact we can do some things they can't. Don;t let your buddies fool you they probably have no to very limited seat time on 3 wheels. And as far as comfort on the trails Big reds are hard to beat. Take your machine you won;t regret it.

Yeah,good point reguarding the crops in summer,that, and im sure noise may an issue.then,as you said 3-wheels sure do change the trail surface.but,with all the $$$$ that is at stake reguarding atvs,like chillian was saying upstate n.y. Has 752 miles and counting of trails,thats a area i would love to ride for a week or so!

Sugar camp is within 15 miles of eagle river,rhinelander,st.germain and miniquoa 30 miles south of the u.p. Suring sounds great,are there gas stops along the way?ill do a search like you said pipeline. Thanks

The sled trails are 10-15 feet wide with nice long straights,and long sweeping curves you ride at 60 mph.ill ride the trails in the summer,only in certain parts,as most of the land is private logging companies.but i never ride any wheels on sled trails in winter,it ruins the trails and gives atvs/3 wheels a bad and damaging image.

i have had my 250sx out for 6-7 hours on the trails with my quad buddies as i cant get my three wheeler buddies here to get thier trikes dirty ! lol, i have had my 250r out on the trails for 4-5 hours no troubles, the 250r keeps the quad riders right in check !!!!! even on the big hill climbs!!!!

absolutely! in almost ALL cases, snowmobile trails are mantained and groomed at the expense of the snowmobile clubs, in the form of $$$ AND time volunteered by generous people. in NYS, its illegal to operate any wheeled vehicle on ANY designated snowmobile trail in winter season regardless of how that trial is used in summer. wheeled vehicles destroy and rut a groomed trail exept in the coldest of conditions. sleds in general make whoops that are easily smoothed out by the groomer and drag. i find that many people who want an ATV trail system to ride anre the same people riding sleds in winter, myself included. so lets stick together on this. keep the wheelers off the public sled trails in winter. it will do nothing for the wheeling image to help in developing new trails. what farmer would let a wheeler trail though his land, and trust people to stay on the trail that wont even respect the fact that its the sledders' turn in winter??
