Found an 82 70 in a barn a couple of weeks ago for 25.00. Tires are shot, but plastic and seat pan/foam are good. Should be able to get her going but have a question. I am only reading 128 on compression and it is supposed to be around 145. I do have spark and everything else is there. How much trouble is it to put a top end on it? Never done one so should be a good learning experience.

Get it running first . The compression might come up a bit after you run it .

Yep, I was told my '80 110 engine had too low of compression to run, yet after some fiddling with the carb for a bit, it ran like new :)

128 isn't bad. I had an CT 90 (basically the same as the ATC 90) that was at 90 psi and it ran pretty good, but it does run a lot better with new rings and the valves lapped. But 128 psi should be pretty good. Just had a guys Goldwing leave the shop and it was supposed to be 185 psi factory, the old neglected thing was down around 100 psi but it still ran real good with a carb cleaning and some spark plugs.

128 psi is perfect for a 70cc,in the spec a ct70 is between 125 and 130 on a fresh top end

Sorry, I know that this is an old thread, but I am just now getting a chance to mess with this thing. Got spark, 128 compression is good, new coil, new ebay carb and the plug is getting wet so it is getting new gas, but cannot get it to fire. Should I check timing or any other ideas? This thing has me a little stumped. It has not run in probably 20 years but everything is moving freely, feels good on the pull rope, oil is changed, etc. Maybe I will pull it around with the SX for a while to see if she will crank. Any suggestions welcome. This is my first 70 and don't know what they are weird about. thanks

Did you pull the carb and clean it good making sure the idle jet is not clogged . They can be buggers to start after sitting a while .

Adjust your valves ,and tow it. She'll run!

yank the left side cover and check the timing, and adjust the valves.

The wet plug=NO FIRE. pull the plug, dry it off, crank the engine over a few times with the gas off and the plug out. This will help dry the gas out. Then give it another shot.
When a plug is wet(fouled) it WILL NOT FIRE or have EXTREMELY WEAK SPARK.
Check your carb, make sure it's clean and It's not flooding over.

Something I have had to do in the past is make the gap smaller on the plug.
