I have owned 3 wheelers my whole life started with a 110 to 125m to 200s to 200x's and i always wanted a 250r.... a 85-86 though... well i got a deal on a 83 250r the problem is i got it home took it down the road, and 1st 2nd and half of 3rd would not hit power band. I took the carb out cleaned it, put a new plug in and now it will not hit powerband at all, almost in 5th. To discribe what its doing exactlly is if you were to not lel your 2 stroke warm up and just try to rip with it the power band just boggs an cuts out. Anyone know what it could be???

Does it have any mods (pipe, airbox, open air filter?) Is it running rich, or lean? Take it out, and hold it wide open in a high gear. Kill the engine when you are in the high gear. Take out the spark plug. Is the color on the plug black or white? Black = rich, too much gas, and White = lean, too much air and HOT! The jetting could be off. Is the choke on off after it is warmed up? What happens if you turn it on while riding? Check the numbers on the jets, make sure the needle clip is correct, and refer to the service manual to get an idea where you are at.
The other thing that comes to mind are a loose wire, faulty coil, stator, or cdi. My first guess electrical wise would be the coil. Make sure it is not cracked, and that the wire to spark plug boot is plugged in all the way, and not damaged. Its hard to diagnose, it could be electrical, but it sounds more like a fuel issue to me. Good luck!

well when i took the carb apart, one jet looked homemade, looks like a damn hack job, looks as if the guy filled a fittin with solder then drilled a hole in it. I just bought a rebuil kit off ebay, so ill see where that takes me. Thanks for the advice, ill try it all!!
