dcreel asked me to keep posting this build. Wanted to wait untill it was complete to post, but he's been invaluable in helping with this build, so I figured mabee someone will see something that needs addressed or has any imput before its totally done...........ALSO- was changing oil today on the Tecate & it was red & clean. The manuel says se class 10w30 or 40 (was going to use my honda oil), John the previous owner raced Tecate's, so I think he put fresh oil to store it for the dismantle and restore, but why is it red?

I use BelRay gear oil. I think it's red, so he may have Bel Ray gear oil in it. It looks great man, good job!!

Thanks dcreel, knew I could count on you & there was about 900 to 1000 ML in there, the book calls for 700ML, but should I put extra, all the motor is drained and been sitting. Also, any modern anti-freeze will work, but do you do a mix with water?, I know this winter it'll have to go strait. I lived in Ft Riley Ks. & Sylenas? Any suggestions for start up after long sit?

I wouldn't run more than specified. It will ruin seals. Just make sure it is in the middle of the view window. I use Engine ice 100% in my Tecates to help keep them cool. If you don't have a ratio rite cup they are a life saver for 2 stroke bikes. They come in handy when measuring your premix, fork oil, or trans fluid. If you haven't ran it yet I would run straight water until you are sure there are no leaks and no problems. If I was running anti freeze I would run 50-50 with water. Mix some gas and premix at 32:1 put it in the tank, and kick it. I'm jealous.. the first start and run of a new trike is an awesome experience. Good luck man keep us posted.

Thanx for the help & support on bein' this 2-stroke 250 means alot to a small time trike owner like me. It's not hot in MT, but will make it to the dunes next year, what is ice and where can I get it. John ran 50:1, thats what I measured in the ratio cup, should I start w/ that & work my way down, I know it needs to be thicker, but the reason I ask is he might have it jetted for this elevation and pre-mix, or is it not TOO touchy? (jus' dump in the 32:1)

It's called Engine Ice and you can buy it at any motorcycle shop. I have always ran 32:1 in all of my 2 strokes. The manual says 20:1. If he ran 50:1 in it, give it a shot.
