View Full Version : 350x rear caliper - using the front as a rear one?

I just got my 350X, needs some work but has full DG exhaust and runs. Needs seat cover, plastics, maybe rings eventually, rear caliper, chain/at least master link.

I thought it was 520 by 90L, I had bought a 200s chain that's 520 x 84 L. Figured I could use the master link as their both 520's, but not. Not enough room for the clip part to lock in place.

Going to count my sprockets and order a chain tomorrow. A cheap ebay one will do until I rebuild it.

Now my problem is that I'd like to ride this on the weekend. It only has front brakes, no rear caliper. I have a spare front end with a good brake setup. Has anyone swapped the front to the rear? I could make a temp. bracket to hold it, at least for a few good hours of riding.

Thoughts?

I guess it depends on where you are driving, but driving trails and sand pits I could go all day without using my brakes. Downshifting and letting off the gas provides enough compression braking. That along with your working front brake and maybe its not worth jury rigging something together for the weekend ride.

when i rode mine before tear down i just used front brakes. as long as your not going fast you could get by with it. just pull your clutch to drop enough speed.

Alright, that's what I was thinking but I'm trying a new place and the guy bringing me advised brakes. I figure I just won't do anything stupid...I mean none of my other trikes ever had 'good' brakes.

i went down pretty steep grades in my 200 with no brakes just using 1st gear and zig zags so you should be able to pull it off if you dont get crazy

i had a front brake from a 350X on the back. it took some fabricating but it worked great after i got it done. i ran across my prototype several months back but i can't remember where that was. i will see if i can find it and snap a picture of it. my setup was for the 86 swingarm but could have ben adapted to an 85. man i wish i never sold that bike!
