well, i dont know why you were told they are cheezy. i have the full set on my R with the exception of the headlight mount and my brother has a complete set of Maier OEM rep on his 86 350x. BOTH look great in terms of color, style and finish. Nice and glossy, (just like the stockers were when they were new), color is about as perfect a match as you can get IMHO and the Maier plastic is more resilient than the old stock stuff. heres some pics of my R, tell me what you think... im not a maier salesman or anything, just sayin they make some real nice stuff, better than OEM in my opinion

Maiers are great for dressing up the machine and making a great rider that's shiny. It's great to have that option especially with what OEM's are going for $$$$. But....... The color is off from OEM (to dark) and I never really liked they way they feel. Also with the mold process they use the lose alot of the sharpness of the lines. I can tell the rad shrouds are maiers from a mile away

i have to agree with OC above^^
not to offend anyone but i own both oem and maier shrouds/fenders and the red maiers are awful, my main issue is the color is way off..it doesnt show so much in pictures but in person it is much more obvious. also the shrouds dont flare out as much as oem and are all rounded.. ive yet to see red maiers match an oem tank (even closely)
just my opinion..

^ Yep, they're the wrong color and some guys just have to have OEM!!
They are running about 5-700 now, plan on 1000-1500$ if the economy gets better and or the people with big funds wanna pull the trigger.
Honestly, I had an 85 and the color was not even close! Always angered me that MAIER didn't try to color match a bit better but at least we have them....
When they go, it's NO FENDERS!! This trike stuff isn't gonna last forever!!

For all we know Honda could own that particular shade of red.

Maiers are great for riders. The fit and finsh is nothing like OEM at all. If I need some rider fenders, I'd rather buy used OEM. The maier 350x fenders are a big disappointment. I had a set and was so unhappy with them, I gave them away. Nos or nice used, or both really. I've been squirreling away 350x bits for awhile now.

that is exactly what i heard about the maier's
I dont know what is goin on exactly with the colors.
I have a set of red TRX 250R maier fenders that are just about spot on match with the trike tanks.
I have a OEM honda headlight plastic that matches the red Maier plastic color, which neither matches the OEM honda tank color, even the OEM headlight shroud.
Seems as though Honda even had some color variances in their replacement plastic that did not match the OEM colors spot on.
Funny thing about that headlight shroud is it came from one of the meticulous collectors from this site. The reason he sold it was it was a OEM honda replacement headlight shell that did NOT match the OEM color.
I just find it curious that Honda had color matching problems, at one time, and Maier can match the color...But it is used for quad plastic.
The only way, I am running OEM stuff, is if I am gonna shelf the trike and never ride it..And even then, I will never shell out no $1500 bucks for the NOS oem plastic..I have bought whole bikes and nice used cars for that kind of money.
This red R has a Maier Front fender..All other plastic is OEM..But like I said, even the OEM headlight is off in color compared to the rest of the OEM stuff.

This pic shows how far off Maier Red is vs. the OEM tank.

That is why I say the hell with it and run a whole different color scheme.

I am just glad we can get plastic..Period.

nice trikes Mosh!!! i see on some of the pics the different shades as mentioned. and i do see the sharpness mentioned the OEM stuff has over maier, especially with the scoops. now in my trike, i see a different shade on my tank, but my headlight shroud is OEM and i think my maier stuff matches pretty darn close to the headlight shroud to my untrained eye....i wonder if the tanks were made of a different type of plastic than the fenders just because it had to hold up against long term fuel exposure??? and maybe the color would be slightly different because of this?? or maybe the fuel exposed tanks age a little differently than the other plastic components?? just spitballin here. i still like my new style maier stuff. its got a nice shiny finish, unlike the maier of old back in the 90's all flat finished almost to the point it seemed textured....but im with you Mosh, very glad they still have it available for the old trikes! what would we do without it?

the reason the OEM plastic is different color is when it was made.....oem 85 fenders are like a blood red but they recalled most of the 85 fenders because they cracked to easy...then came the 86 fenders which are the "embossed safety decal" fenders these where a slightly darker red but still a lovely red color then honda made a batch in about 92 which the embossing was taken off but had a flat patch where it used to be ..the color on these fenders is when it started to slip they became alot darker i think honda just used what ever red plastic matrial they had in the molding machines because the red is the same as the TRX's of the 90's....... so then came the modern 250r plastic (warning decal is a stick on decal)which was molded between 98 and 03... but again the same color as the quads at the time the lastest fenders had the worst color .......
Learn something new everyday! Never knew there was a recall.
Thanks for the info..I am with you on the color differences. My friend bought some Honda stuff in the 90's and it did not match..

They aren't "cheesey at all" They are a well fitting alternative. But you can't the color to OEM so pony up the bucks or deal with it.
I'll run purple or nean colors if I have too!! I'm very happy with MAIER, but I ride and ride often, I don't just take pics of my trikes.......
Rip it up !!

There is a OEM NEW front and rear set on ebay, the link is in the ATV classifides. Maier's are great for a rider but there is nothing like the look ,fit and feel of OEM Honda.

the oem plastics are no longer in production and hard to find. (just wanted to show off my intelligence) XD
anyways about the maier plastics, i have the red rear fenders and air grabbers and yes they are way off color, much darker then the fresh hot blood red honda used, HOWEVER i must agree the color choices are cool i like black, and mosh's black n gray trike is pretty sharp couldn't get that color scheme stock! also i know they offer white , and i think i remember seeing blue also , so thanks maier for offering us plastic, even if you can get the color that we are looking for right just for different machines (lol)
