Thanks guys for being so patient with my questions and complaints, I'm pretty pissed off at the moment. Now the 85' 200x is backfiring even with the new spark plug. I think it started because I may have jumped it a little to hard the other day, my fault, but can't always help it. What are some of the causes of the backfiring? If I know a few I can trouble shoot and do MORE work on it.

I'd check your intake boot first, backfiring can be caused by a lean condition. If nothing else changed like a new pipe or filter i'd bet your intake boot has a hairline crack or something, you can always start it up and spray some starting fluid at the boot area if it picks up rpm's you have a leak..

Main jet is lean or partly clogged . Packing in the pipe is in need of replacing .

I think you fella's are on to something. The tailpipe was dented in from the brake (bottem'd out) and knocked the tailpipe partly off. May have rattled the packing a bit. What sucks is I jus' put my spare Tail pipe on sons 200x, #!@$%!!. That jarred the head pipe, can now see smoke out the exaust port. I'll work on it tonight or tomarrow, need to step back today, to pissed off.

If you can see smoke coming out the exhaust port like the head pipe isn't sealing then that is probably the reason for the backfiring.

atc350xer- So it ain't jus' me.....huh. My son's yt started knocking and blowin' oil and it was beating the piss outa him, tried to unsuccessfully build a 200es, expensive, difficult, p.o.s.. $600+ down the drain traded for a 200x, Onnie's happy. Daughters 125m runs pretty good. Thought I got a good deal on a dissassymbled 85' Tecate and even got to ride it a little, the most difficult and expensive thing to fix happenend, electrical. 2 1/2 trikes out of 7 runnin'. Not quite the investment of $1000's of dollars I was looking for. & absoutely no trike mechanics in Montana. I'm at the mercy of whoever can help or when I come up with thousands of dollars. I've been a real bad mood already for the last 3-4 years, now I'm really feeling pissed. & almost broke, not outta $,- broke.

Maybe there is something in the air. My 200X ran real good for the last year. And I just put carrier bearings in it, adjusted the valve clearances, changed the fork oil, cleaned the oil filter rotor, and a bunch more. Well last night on a ride with my girl friend I came through a big mud hole and when I gunned it I heard a sound from the engine like teeth on gears skipping and then that was it. My engine is locked up. Sounds like yours should be any easy and maybe free fix. I think the gasket for the exhaust pipe is only like $2 from Honda.

harryredtrike- right-o. Puff of smoke out head pipe. Get this: dealership wants $18 for headpipe gasket. Are they plated in gold or platinum? Denniskirk, as far as I have seen, doesn't have gaskets for head & tail pipe. Who? Where? How? do i get/make a couple of gaskets? Considered asbestos stove rope & silicone. Montana sucks for anything needed mechanical. No industry or commercial opportunities here.
