85' Tecate has a dg exhaust, but only mounts for 2 springs. Alot of exhaust and oil piss out & blacken the frame & motormount. I see a mount for a third spring below on the motor, but not pipe, why? And where do I puchase new exhaust springs? (former owner has new ones for a suzuki, but are too long) I also have a new gasket part #11009-1949, isn't the existing one already formed to this pipe? What is a good replacement (new) carb to put on this motor? Are they still available? Do I stick with stock size even though it has a dg exhaust? Thanks guys, still ironing out the kinks and manual sorta sucks.

its pretty hard to get a 2-stroke pipe/flange to leak absolutely zero oil out the seam. but having said that, there should be an o-ring or 2 or some sort of seal on the exhaust flange that the pipe fits over on the cylinder. its not so much about the springs unless they are just not holding the pipe at all tight. i have a billet flange on my R and between that and the new pipe that thing fits on there good and snug even before the springs go on. i would remove the pipe and see what sealing components you can replace. maybe even a set of new springs (made for your machine) too. i have seen it before where an aftermarket exhaust may not necessarily mount exactly the same as OEM. not sure on your carb situation....other than its a Mikuni roundslide! lol!

Clean both surfaces well, and add new o-ring. Coat pipe flange with hi-temp permatex RTV. Guaranteed not to leak. Mine Tecates never leak. They have a well designed spigot area. Leakey exhaust connections rob power..........

There is a copper crush washer that goes in there too.

I use Permatex red or black high temp even with old o-rings and it doesnt leak at all at first.

I use the KX500 FMF spring and oring kit from my local dealer $15

as far as carb I like Keihin PWK 36, 38, or 39mm

But I have used 34 and 38mm Mikuni TM, 39mm Mikuni VM and dont care for them as much but they will work if you know what you are doing.

Thanks guys. Not being a post hog, but when someone contacts you on the phone it's only polite to respond, feel a post is the same way. I want you guys to know I appreciate your time. What about the carb.? If am going to a project at this point a fresh carb. would be the best route. I search bikebandit, denniskirk, & e-bay, but am unfamiliar with this rig, & don't want the costly mistakes I had on the 200x. Besides the carbs. mentiond above, that would be more user friendly, not the hand that nd4speed is with a wrench.

The DG pipe holds 2 o-rings, The package you have looks to be the copper gasket that goes inside the exhaust port. The stock 85 carb is a 34 mm carb. I don't know if I would go larger than 36mm without porting the jug.

I have a 36 pj on my tecate now that I don't care for much. I'm going to buy a 35 pwk for it as I've had real good luck with that carb on other models. It's very easy to tune.

Yup, RIDE-RED 250r, I think I got it a couple of months ago, but needed more than my 200x, fluke deal and I am so happy to have a powerful smoker. It was a box of parts, see- The Tecate guys coached me through putting it together.
