View Full Version : My 200X won't idle

So my 200X won't idle. I cleaned out the carb, put a new plug in, and it will idle very high, or not idle at all (it dies), and when i can get a lower idle, it bounces up and down in RPM's. I've tried messing with the adjustment screw on the side, but there has got to be another one somewhere. Don't carburetors usually have a high and low end adjustment screw on them?

I'm going to try and clean it out again later (not in the mood to wake the neighborhood up :p ), I have a feeling I might have missed something..

I would check for air leaks first. Also, on older carbs the slide can become worn where the idle set screw rests on it. The screw creates a depression in the slide from the repeated contact when you close the throttle. It can give cause idle. If the depression is large, consider cleaning it up a bit with a file...must be a small one as the groove is narrow!

Did it just start doing this out of nowhere? Mine was doing this the whole time I owned it and I finally bought a new carb for it. You can read about it on the homepage. I think these old carbs just get worn out inside and let either air or fuel leak through.

oh yea...saw new carbs on EvilBay for like $20. Could be a cheap solution.

Other than the idle speed screw on the carb, there is a fuel/air mixture screw. When mine did this, i took it out about two turns and it helped a lot. I'd mess around with that, and if that doesn't help, you may want to adjust your valves.

I beleive skydrifter350 is right about the slide /throttle valve. Mine was idleing the same way, so I took the carb apart and the slide/throttle valve had a depression in the groove. I bought a cheap carb off Ebay and the problem was solved.
