Hi All, I just bought a CR500 and went to change the gear oil and was a gray color. I just saw a post about gray oil. However, After I changed the oil I check it and it was gray again. Attached is a picture of the color of the oil. Should I flush the system?

Second questions is under the water pump, Im guessing thats the water pump where 2 radiator hoses come out of, there seems to be a small hole. The hole is to the left of the oil check bolt. Attached is another picture for that. Any ideas. Should that be there? Should I have it welded close? Please help

looks liek antifreeze in the oil or gasket goo letting loose.
Put poor quality 30W in it, run for 5 minutes or until hot, then drop the oil like its hot, because it is.
Refill with proper weight and enjoy.
good luck, that is a new color to me.

it could have just needed to be drained if tranny oil is left long enough clutch fibers will make it look grey

if it a dark gray its old ass oil if your water pump seals went or gasket it would be a milky colour oil

What year 5-hundo is that? 87-88? That small hole below the water pump is supposed to be there, when the water pump seal goes bad, it will weep out of that hole, serves as a early warning. As far as the gray oil, a little water will do it, You will prob have to change it a few times to get it all out. Keep an eye on your antifreeze level and if you notice it is dissapearing then look into changing some seals. With proper maintenence, these things are pretty bullet-proof.
