so i have found a small hair line crack in my right side rear fender up by the back corner of the seat.
its barley visible unless you push down on the fender and let the crack open up. Im not sure what to do,
anyone use a Plastic welder? its such a small crack that if i welded it from underneath maybe it wont show. New maier plastics are 180 dollars which i will pay if i need to, since im doing my fix up right now.
the maier don't have mud flaps on them, will my OEM ones bolt on the maier plastics?
maybe even JB welding the crack from underneath?

what to do? im kinda worried lol i like my OEMs and are very clean, im worried maiers just wont look as good, or will be so nice that it will look weird compared to the rest. lol

thankyou

most crack repairs will eventually fail.you can try alot of things to fix it and many are ugly.do what you can to patch the crack(stabilize) and save your coins up for some new ones later

You can drill a small hole right at the end of the crack and this will stop it getting bigger

yeah i probably will get the maier fenders. so can my mudflaps go on the maier fenders? otherwise they look horrible.
the crack is so small on the OEMs that drilling holes will make it show. ill just replace them =(

I would J.B from the back side, once it sticks itwon't come off. i use it on everything. no problems. You won't know it's there.

i will try that for sure, i got nothing to lose since my other option is to replace them.

whats the pros and cons of fiber glass over plastic?

so does anyone know if OEM mudflaps will go on maier fenders?

and my father came up with the idea of supporting the crack with a layer of fiber glass underneath, anyone heard of such a thing?
im thinking JB weld would be nice since i could push a little bit into the crack from below to hold it together but my dad keeps sayin fiber glass patch...

thanks guys, i got alot of questions here

so no one has ever tried to put mud flaps on their maier fenders before?
also no one has ever bought a set of 84 110 maier fenders either?

I've gotten bikes that previous owners had tried patching/reinforcing from underside of fender with fiberglass...they all fail. The only thing I don't know is how long it might last before the fiberglass starts to fall away from the plastic.
As for greenhuman's advice on drilling a small hole....that will stop the crack....even if you try to repair it , the crack might still grow if you don't drill the small holes at each end of the crack. Use the smallest drill bit you have. If you still see the hole, find a crayon that matches the color and fill up the hole with the wax(by rubbing the crayon back and forth over the hole) and buff it with a clean cloth(friction will heat/smooth it over). If anybody sees that repair...they're looking pretty hard.
Maier makes their SX fenders to accept the stock mud flaps, so I would assume that they make the 110/125 fenders to accept the stock flaps. Looking at the picture of the Maier fender, it seems to have the same "lip" at the rear corners for attaching the mud flaps.

you can go to a bodyshop supply store and ask them what peoduct would work good for what kind of plastic you have. i have used a lot of plastic repair products and they all work good, if done right. if your just doing it on the backside, usually you want to drill a small hole, bit you dont have to drill the hole all the way through, just let the point go through. then scuff your plastic with 180 grit but dont use a grinder or anything that will melt the plastic or it wont stick. then just spread a healthy 1/8 inch layer extending ab ut an inch past all sides/ ends of the crack. you can use jb weld in this manner and it will stick good also, and bondo makes a plastic repair kit for car bumpers for cheap, but i dont know if it works well or not.

bought the maier fenders and rears just came in today. they are super beautiful and shiny. The color is pretty off from my Clarke gas tank From what i can tell (haven't held them side by side yet) and the front fender is on back order and will be in "mid December" says Dennis kirk.

the fenders do not come pre drilled for the mud flaps so this will be interesting....Kinda nervous about that. also the gas tank has no rear holes for mounting to the frame so It looks like I gotta drill holes in that too.....scary.

I'm painting the front forks to match the gas tank (which is pretty much OEM looking) and now after seeing the rear fenders i know the front will be the same. so Its gonna have 2 pretty different shades of red. lol gotta love it. ha
