My son, Onnie's & the one I ride. Onnie loves his 200x, it's faster than mine and no kids in town will even bother to race him. And as you can see in the pictures, this ten year old can handle this trike with ease. Should have my daughters pink auto-x built by next spring, one more for the club.

Maybe someone can help me here. For some odd reason, my 200x just refuses to idle properly. When it does idle correctly, it's usually pretty high, and then it will die.

Play around with the fuel/air mixture screw on the bottom of the carb. Sometimes it helps to take it out a turn or two. Also, you should adjust your valves.

Could be an air leak on the intake tube/orings etcf etc......
harryredtrike
07-02-2010, 07:45 PM
clean your pilot jet out and make sure your intake boots are good and tight same with the exhaust pipe
haggard 2hundie
07-02-2010, 09:27 PM
mine had trouble idling , it turned out somehow the throttle cable was to tight not letting the slide back in the carb causing it to idle HIGH or nothing at all plus i had a small crack on the intake tube . put some rtv on it and so far so good ?
Xpress
07-02-2010, 09:39 PM
Intake tube looks to be in good condition, car has been cleaned thoroughly a few times, and the tank isn't spitting out anything dirty to clog a carb. It's got a good seal from what I'm guessing. Exhaust is tight too (as tight as can be).
It has to be something with the mixture, maybe I need to play with it a bit more..
ron1576
07-02-2010, 09:57 PM
What you need to do is start the machine up and spray some starting fluid around the intake and o-ring area and see if it accelerates, that would indicate an air leak.

Heres my 84 200x - auto X. What do you guys think about the tank scoops? I was shooting for more of a SRP scoop look, but this is what I came out with. Its nothing too special, just a bassani exhaust and 200x cam, and carb. The motor is out of a 185s, but really hauls for what it is, and is a great trail bike for around here. I have had this wheeler for many years, and grew up riding this machine.

Wider axle. Extended swingarm is still in the works. I have a spare I'm going to chop and extend. But part of me is reluctant, as I enjoy wheelies and I doubt I can still lift the front tire if I do it.

They had a good thing going with those 200x's. Light enough you can throw it into a pickup truck bed without ramps, gets 60 mpg, goes what about 55 mph, light and easy to handle, simple to fix and work on and motors that seem to have lasted a 1/4 century or more, takes only a litre of oil. A real keep it simple and have fun machine. Nice that we are able to still get parts for them easily.

A lot of really nice 200x's on here. I see that DG exhaust on the one of the above 200x's and I can't figure out why mine sticks out so far from the rear grab bar. I have the same grab bar (I believe PRM Baja) and the exhaust sticks out like 3-4" behind it. I'm afraid I'm going to drag it on the ground some time doing wheelies.

Grizzlypeg
07-05-2010, 07:00 PM
If you only remove the filter and kick it over a few times to pump some oil, it should only dump out 1 litre, unless someone overfilled it previously. I'd put just 1000cc's back in, start it up. Shut it down, then check the dipstick level.

Yup, we have to plate our offroad vehicles. Snowmobiles, quads, etc. Unfortunately it doesn't include the right to drive it on the street. Just proves its registered with motor vehicles and we have at a minimum liability insurance. Its cheap, so no big deal.

The cable is far too long to be used without modification, of which I am NOT about to do. Half an hour of fiddling with it yielded no usable result.

Okay, after futzing around with my new clutch cable, i said screw it, and put the old one back on. Turns out the exterior of the new clutch cable is about an inch too short, but the cable itself is the right length. Leave it up to some lame chinese manufacturer to screw everything up
Anyways, my new tires are SOOO much better than the old balloons. Feels much more locked in, and in control in tight corners. Still working on getting donuts back down....

The problem is the main body of the clutch cable is just too short, by about an inch or so, which is why it just will never work. I'd have to get a piece of brass piping or whatever to fit over the clutch handle end to allow it to work properly. And no, the adjustments aren't going to work.

other than blowing our own horn about each 200X that has been built (even thought they are usually awesome). Does any one have a list of book marked 200X links or threads they could share? Sort of a built "holy grail" if you will of usefull 200X info? X-over parts, specks, how to's how don't?? I am pretty new to the borad and love both sites and would tottally cut and paste to my "faves" on my lap top to take to the garage.

Pull the front axle and inspect the bearings. I wouldn't ride it like that. It may be what wrecked your rotor, may wreck the wheel and eventually wreck you. If the bearings are good, check that they tightly fit the wheel and axle shaft. Gotta be some play in there somewhere. If there's no play, then the wheel must be bent.

The 86 is nicer for sure but the 85 is still a lot of fun. The 86 is peppier and has the box frame plus I had a 350x front end on my 86. I also had an extended axle with holeshot's so it was quite different. This one is still a blast. It pulls up with me on the seat no problem through 3rd gear. Once I tune it she will rock out. I still will have a 250r one of these days though :)

Don't use the whole can. A quick shot will do. There should't be a problem with ignition unless your carb is popping back at you due to wrong timing, or have an exhaust leak that is shooting flames.

theres mine. i have been cheating on it with the 250r so i better give it more attention before it finds out.
i need to adjust the valve's and check the ignition timing or check the tube between the carb and cylinder for leaks.
and im going to need new fenders and seat which will cost at least 400$.
and there is a snapped bolt/thread in the cylinder where the pipe attaches so the pipes not fully on right.
i got a shop manual for it but i dont got the extra money right now for parts so i try to do what i can to fix it for now.

where did you order those fender shrouds?
thats why i dont care for older 200x's cause their stock fender shrouds are just too small and the gas tank looks bad with them.

I don't know if the 86 is different than the 85, but it seems to work.

I wanna mass ride!! I will travel too. Could we get Honda to make some donations for marketing their product by riding cross-country?
P.S> here is my 200x (apparently only worth $500)

I am near Joliet. Originally, one of my brother's friends had bought a 250r about a year ago. I did some work for my bro's friend, and he owed me some cash. He could not pay me, so he gave me the 250r as payment. I am not a big fan of 2 strokes, just cause I like riding the trails where noise is a consideration and it was my first 3 wheeler. I was going to sell it, but Curt ( I think he is a member here, really nice guy) contacted me and said he had built the 250r and would like to get it back. He offered to trade the 200x for it. So, I traded it and have had no regrets. Love the suspension and seems to keep up with the quads. It is a blast to ride.......would like to upgrade to a 350x in the future.....

A 350X isn't much of an upgrade over a 250R, more like a 4 stroke equivalent, apparently (I guess it also depends on the year). Lots of people like them, mostly for their power, but for the guys that own 250r's, it's nice to just dump straight up pump gas in the tank, fire it up, and hit it :)
But if you want some nasty power, try a Tecate. Oh boy.. They'll scare you ;)

Ok sorry for the double, but I was wondering if I could get more opinions on what you guys think the value of my 84 X is.
http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/23/dscn7517.jpg
Think I could pull $450 out of it? The pic is old, but it's got all new tires, and starts every time, no smoke!
I wound up getting into a sweet t3 deal, and all was going good until my stuff stopped selling. The good news is that I will easily be to get another X, maybe even buy mine back. So, you guys think I should go for it?

Cut the beads on the old tire, ripped the rim out of it, lubed up the new tire, shoved it into the rim, and then spent the next hour figuring out how to inflate it. Wound up cramming it between my jeep, a cinderblock, and putting my knee ontop and eventually got the beads to hook and inflated it :) My first tire change.
