2. with the back wide open as in chain and disk how bad is the mud for it can i still play in it and how about sand?
3. does it over heat easy being air cooled if so how long can i run before i should let it cool down?
4. are there any type of everyday\weekly\monthly maint. i should know about?
5. will a 85\86 tank fit on the 83? dk has new metal ones but i would rather have the plastic.
6. can i fit a 350x doul head light setup on it?
any help anyone can give would be great

the highest octane you can get is best oil depends on what was used before you got it stick with that, and 32:1 is what i use in everything.
shouldnt have a problem with sand or mud
you shouldnt have an overheating problem, as long as you keep moving.
there is much maintince such as grips topend chain
yes you can fit a 350x dual headlight on it

yes, keep moving otherwise it will over heat. I have pulled a 85 250r that the motor blew up and I had to tow him back to camp (17 Miles) with my 84 250r when I had it and it did awsome. 85-86 250r tank WONT fit unless you do some hardcore designing. 350x will work, It is always good to monthly, clean and oil airfilter, top off oil, top off brake fluids. Also some people put some injector cleaner in a tank a couple of times a year to keep the jets clean.

92 octane will be suficiant and 32:1 is the prefured ratio.
you can run it in the mud and sand just fine but, those two elements do wear things out faster. the sand and mud are very abrasive. they also put higher loads on the motor. one hard day in the mud is probably the equivalent as 3/4 days of normal use.
it could overheat if you held it wide open for extened periods of time in extreme conditions.
as far as maintenance;
check you air filter, your chain, air pressure, cable free play, bleed air from forks, nuts, bolts, daily.
change your tranny oil , check your spark plug, weekly.
clean/ re oil your air filter, check compression, check axel bearings, steering stem bearings,
these are just the basics.
look for my weekly tech tips were i will be getting more into these questions.

thank you all very much for all your help now i just need to write all this down, now one more question, can i take the hand throtle off and put in a thumb one yes yes you will call me a baby but today is my first time on a 250r and i thought i new what i was getting in to but as you can guess i wasn't at all, that thing wants to kill me i can see who it looks at me when i walk by, anyway i almost killed myself in the woods when i hit 3rd gear going up a big not to steep hill and i wasn't ready for it to kick me back so hard well when it did that i hit the gas even harder not wanting to mind you, so i want my thumb back i've been riding a yamaha 225 tri-moto i thought that was fast hahahahahahaha so that is my story (veery sad) and that is also my question can i switch it to the thumb? before i die...
