i have a 1983 200x and i am moving to a town with a noise ordinance, i need to quiet it a little. i could modify my stock exhaust, by it dont want to drain power. what exhaust should i get that wont be any louder than stock (preferably quieter) tht will boost my power. i was thinking cobra 200x exhaust or DG 200x exhaust. if ii got cobra i could make an extra slip on muffler to go on the back of it, i figure it will have boosted power from the exhaust then if i muffle that, it will be a little quieter than stock, but have about the same if not more power. just figured id get your opinions and if any of you knew an exhaust that is quiet and powerful (if one even exists:wondering)

Supertrapp is the best, Cobra is the worst. DG pipes are good as long as you use the fmf spark arrestor with it.

will supertrapp muffle it more? and the reason i thought cobra is because its cheaper, i dont want to spend much on it

if you put a cobra or a dg on it, it won't be any quieter, it will probably be louder.

Cobra pipes are like twice as loud as stock pipes!

your saying you need to quite it down and want more power. so maybe taking a high performance pipe and muffling it down to make it quite might be better than muffling down the stock exhaust (performance wise).
if thats what you meant, than find something cheap that your not afraid to cut up because almost every after market exhaust will be louder. you want something with a bigger diameter head pipe that you can play with and make the muffler extra quite. you can weld right?
I would find a steel pipe with bigger diameter head pipe, then put the stock muffler on the end (or add some restriction to the after market muffler somehow.) and that would all be experimentation and might not even work better than just slapping on a fresh new stock exhaust (does your stock one now have rust hole in it? or any air leaks)
IMO i really dont see how you could gain performance and lower sounds at the same time on such a small simple pipe of a single cylinder engine. like i said maybe try finding something bigger in diameter than muffling it down at the end. just some ideas....

Where can you get a Supertrapp for a 200x? Is it specific for the 200x or is it a universal slip on you use?

i am not trying to really gain power, i just dont want to lose power... i think ill buy cobra or dg and make another pipe to slip over the end of it. for 2 mufflers ( i dont need it quiet all the time, so itll be removable) i will make something like this to go on the end of the pipe: o, and yes, i am a very good welder http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/productimages/OG/0000-Benz-Silent-Rider-Exhaust-Silencer.jpg

Wait, i have a DG RCM chrome pipe, like it alot, but the silencer tab mounting bracket broke off ... so i had to kind of "repair" the mount by making my own.. it isnt very attractive, and my silcencer is broken a bit by internal rust and a big dent on the bottom, plus that mount is busted..... WHICH FMF SILENCER FITS? :) let me know.. never heard of this trick.......
Oh, PS. dont buy the cobra. cobra is crap. im very very happy with the RCM pipe on my 200x, and i have a buddy with a "supertrapp" on his..... but he bought it with his bike, good luck finding one for yours.. i havent even seen them on ebay in a while.... his is a 86 though, different year then ours (IM ASSUMING) i have a 85......... ok guys let me know about that FMF silencer, and yes - if you were buying one of those, definately go with the RCM it sounds pretty damn good for a 200x too with that pipe on there.... and it looks much better than the cobra.

The cobra, bassani, and DG will all increase the noise levels quite a bit. If you want it quiet, just keep the stock exhaust. My guess is that yours just needs re-packing. Otherwise, by your description, a supertrapp would be the way to go. They have removable discs, and the more discs you use, the quieter it is. I would say it could get as quiet or a little more so than a stock muffler. They are nice, because you can really fine tune them for noticable changes in power delivery from your motor. More plates equals more low end torque, and less or no plates (really loud) will give a little better top end power. They dont make the real supertrapp systems for the 200x anymore, so you will have to check on here or on ebay. The header pipe is most likely needed with this muffler, because of its larger diameter. I know they make a universal supertrapp yet that may work, you can get it through dennis kirk. I havnt heard too much about these, and dont know how good they are. Hope this helps, and good luck!

SuperTrapp has models with different clamp diameters, so it's all a matter of finding out what size the stock header outter diameter is, and buying the appropriate pipe.
