I'm helping a buddy of mine who is trying to get back into the triking scene and for whatever reason he's got his heart set on a six-speed. He wants either a 350X, a Tecate, a Tri-Z, or a liquid R. I'm pretty sure there was never a 6-speed Tecate, right? I know there was a 6-speed Tri-Z, only 86 if I'm correct. The 85 and 85.5's were five speeds, no? I think all 350X's are six speeds. I have no idea about the liquid R's.
Thanks in advance.

i dont know about the speeds, but why is it such a big deal to him? lets say he finds a beautiful trike for a great price but its a 5 speed....he walks away?
to me its not to much of a difference. you can prefer one but to have that as a big selling point is weird IMO. lol
what makes him think a 6 speed is so much better? im just wondering is all

All liquid cooled Rs are 6 speeds. I too am wondering why he is dead set on a 6 speed. Is he one of those guys who thinks it is another gear over a 5 speed tranny that makes them one gear faster? Many folks don't understand the final ratio is nearly the same it just puts the ratios closer together.

No, he is very mechanically inclined and understands gearing and all of that.
He had trikes when we were younger. He started out with a 250SX, then a 200S, and ended it with a 300R. It's been quite a few years since he has had one and he wants "The One", so to speak. He wants to either pick up a very fine machine or get one that needs some work and go right through it. He wants to do it one last time, and once only. For whatever his reasons he has his heart set on a six-speed. I had this conversation with him last night and he is not wavering. There's no sense in trying to talk him out of it so I'm just trying to find out what our options are.
Thanks for the info on the liquid R. One down....
