weel i've been interested in a tecate for some time so my eyes have been open , finally i found one for a decent price , the guy tells me everything is great just needs the rear brake cylinder rebuilt to be 100% .. lol .. so i drive 3 1/2 hours to see her .. when i get there, iot wont start , after a few plug changes and attemted pop starts just a few fire , never really RUNNING.. so i offered him a little less and brought her home .. found to have no spark , so im thinking stator , rite ?? weel after playing with a few wires i got her going she runs pretty good just breaks up a lil at the top end which i think a lil carb attention will fix .. also axle bearings and swinger bushings feel a lil loose..( but i got my 1st ride on a tecate aroynd the yard anyways ),, so let me know what you guys think ..
I would like to find the bearings for it also any idea where i may be able to pik those up ??.. so the final price was 500 bux plus about a $ 75 drive to get her .. so let me hear some opinions boys !!
also a little advice on some go fast parts !/ come on tecate guys !!!!!

Well, you got it for a good price. As far as power upgrades, a better carb and a KX cylinder would be the easiest way to start. Then go from there. If you want to add performance to a Tecate you can, but you have to be patient and willing to spend money. Hope it works out for you. Nice trike.

Nice snag.....bearings can be ordered anywhere.......first thing I would do is take off those huge tires! As far as go fast stuff, I would concentrate on a complete Kx250 ignition system that includes (Flywheel, stator, and CDI) and a Kx250 cylinder as it is lighter than the Tecate set up. A plus 2 extended swingarm wouldnt hurt to help keep that baby on the ground! With out getting crazy into details, this should help you make some easy horsepower if thats what you are looking to achieve. Welcome to Team Green!

Sweet, you practically stole it for that!

I think it was a good deal. I would add (to the things already listed) a cold air intake, and dual stage carbon fiber reeds.

thanks guys much appreciated.. now as far as the kx cylinder goes, i understand that its an exact bolt up , i was wondering about the head tho, would you use the stock tecate head ? or get the kx head ? also what year kx's are compatible with the 85 tecate... and for the ignition , all of those components are bolt on as well ? also what are the advantages of this ??

Nice score man. That's a great price too. First thing I would do is ditch that DG pipe. I have one I use as a spare and it blows...

I liked my DG pipe and KX cylinder I had on mine. Seemed to pull harder and rev farther than my 86.
The KX head has a coolant spigot that points to the side not straight up and I had to make hose changes for that KX head to work.
I would just ride it and enjoy it the way it is and collect parts along the way.
Looks to be in good shape

go with the kxt head on the kx cylinder, a nice kx ignition is key as mentioned, but if you got the cash, go with a pvl ignition. 38mm airstryker carb, some v-force 3 reeds, you got yourself a sweet set up. dg is an ok pipe, but try and find something better if you can. some progressive springs in the forks, and an extended swinger with a 300ex, or raptor shock, should get that thing riding smooth. and yeah, get some smaller rear tires. i got 18" fast trekkers for mine.

$575? And running? You did great. That's a great deal for a nice bike, and as nd4speed said, just ride it. I got a frame and box of parts for $400 and cost $60 for gas. It did (but I screwwed that up) run when I got it together, and have a spare motor (which I haven't got runnin'). You got it all funtioning as I can see (beside a little brake work). And Tecate's are becoming more popular with everyone found and bought I think. That's an enjoyable find there partner. See-

I went with the pvl on my 85 what a wheelie machine it's like a little kind that is ready to explode. It just wants to go. they do need a longer swinger

Cool! thanks guys , yea i do plan on just playing with her for now but i sure will like to fix it up along the way , so the info really helps , this way atleast i know what to look for , again i've always been a honda man.. lol.. but hey scooteroo are the 300ex/raptor shocks direct bolt - ons ? also i know dg isn't the best pipe but what is something better than i can keep my eyes open for ??
And hang&rattle killer tecate there bro .. really like the color scheme , maybe i'll get mine looking as good as yours ( hopefully soon ) hehe and yea brake work is all it needs as far as mechanichal (other than a few bearings).. anyone know where i can get a rebuild kit for that rear brake cylinder ? , or is it easier to just look for a replacement ? THANKS TO ALL !!

Raptor shock is a direct bolt in, you just have to use a few of the stock shock eye bolt spacers and the stock top? bolt, can't really remember. Other than that the nitrogen bottle has a real short hose on the rappy shock, so you have to mount it in kind of a wierd spot. I used a couple hose clamps and attatched it to the fram behind the kicker. The rappy shock is a better shock than the 300ex and it's fully adjustable, but it will probably cost ya a little bit more. Oh, and you can't run an airbox with the raptor shock, so if that's an issue, go with the 300ex. Nice score on the T3, looks in good shape. Have fun with it.
