Ok guys this 1st gen x i built is giving me a rough time. Its over heating pretty quick (the exhaust is glowing) and it idles really high. NOT the carb, NOT intake, NOT out of time. besides them things what else can it be. im so clueless at this point. Let me know what you all think. As of right now it does not have a air filter but the air tube and box is all conected. so...........

running hot is a sign of running lean. you say not the carb or intake. so im guessing you checked for air leaks. Its also not out of time you say.
hmmm whats the plug look like?
Sometimes a high idle can be related to an air leak too.
but i have had a glowing exhaust when riding at night and thats normal esp on after market pipes that are thinner.

k went out and tried a diff plug. it runs alot better now but found out that i think my 3rd gear is shot. 1,2 good shift into 3rd and it starts slipping real bad, and 4, 5 are good too. so my bet is 3rd is bad. if it isnt one thing its another.

How high is the idle? Does it sound like the throttle is stuck wide open?
