So, I found a guy who is getting rid of his 85 Tecate, its got new tires and new plastic. He is willing to trade me for my 85 200X and a Xbox 360 my son out-grew. Here are some pics..... is this a good deal?

I'd take it, a Tecate is far better than any Honda (of course that's just an opinion) and a helluva lot mor fun than an X-Box

It depends on if the Tecate is what you want. Dollar for dollar it's worth more than your 200x but it may or may not suit your riding style.

Guess its all in what you want, if you have another 200x thats cool, you will have both......but that Tecate is a 1984 not an 85! (Drum brake)

I'd do that in a heartbeat, especially if you have another 200X.

Ok guys, I don't know squat about the green machines so please fill me in! So its an 84 not an 85? Is it liquid cooled? The rear brake is a drum setup? Is it possible to easilƯ change to disc? What all do I need to know about this thing?

I see a disc brake setup looking at the picture

It should be liquid cooled, it has disk brakes, and you need to know enough to ride it :)

it has disk brakes
84's had a drum front, but disk on the rear.
I would absolutely do the trade. You can always get another 200X and an Xbox. Tecates are not always available. You will not be disappointed.

Ya they are not real available here in MN! Have only seen a few in the last couple years and beat to heck they are getting top dollar. From what I have read on the forums here, the tecate has good power and rips pretty well, I will be intrested to see the differences compared to my R. This will be the first green machine I have owned. What can I expect from this trike? Any pointers you kawi guys have?

Not even a doubt. Especially if you have another x. You will end up riding nothin' but the Tecate, once you twist the throttle the x suffers in comparison.

Did the tecates come stock with a twist grip instead of the damn thumb throttle?

They certainly did.

Going to meet the guy on either tuesday or wednesday! Can't wait, from what everybody seems to say these are faster than the R's so I can't wait to throw a leg over this thing and rip it up!

Don't let the Honda guys fool you into thinking the Tecates aren't reliable. The only thing Tecates suffer from is the magnets sometimes seperate from the flywheel and tear up the stator. Buy a ricky flywheel or seeif jeswinehart is still selling any of his flywheels and that problem is easily solved. Other then that, if it is maintained properly it is just as reliable as any of the other makes out there. As far as power goes, yes it is faster then the 250R but the power delivery is much different. Your 250R will appear much smoother and some people claim more manageable because the Tecate has a power band that kicks in like a light switch and the best way to describe it is like a punch in the face. When it hits, it hits and its all balls after that. You will have to get used to the different power delivery but when it come to just a flat out race trike, nobody ever compared to the Tecate engines for raw power stock from the factory. Of course mods will change that but once you ride a Tecate and get used to it, you are addicted to the adrenaline rush. 200X's are a dime a dozen and easy to replace not to mention you have another one already. I'd do this deal in a heartbeat.
