The boys 1986 Suzuki LT 230S runs great but if you quickly pin the throttle it bogs, even stalls out? any suggestions? A slow application of juice works just fine. Some history, the quad sat for the last ten years and we had to clean the carb thoroughly.

Some time its as simple as a new air filter so its getting the correct back pressure .
new filter new plug and adjust the valves

does the carb have an accelerator pump? does it have a vacuum slide? is the air filter on it? the symptoms you describe suggest a momentary lean condition. find the cause and you should be good

The plug is new, air filter clean and there is no accelerator pump or vacuum slide. The quad does have a new "Cobra Megaphone" exhaust on it; less restriction than stock. Ideas?

this seems to be my answer for everything but try a bigger main jet or raising the needle one notch

maybe a carb rebuild, with a new jet, but any engine will bog if you pin it from an idle, sometimes you pin it and it sends so much gas into the jug that it floods for a second, then it catches.

Id be willing to bet that your problem is in the main jet. I have ran into this many times on various machines. If your main jet is clean, the make sure that the nozzle it screws into is very clean as well. if so much as one port on that thing is dirty then you will have trouble. The bog can be normal ( to some degree ) but if it dies, then there is a definate problem. may try one size up on the main to see if that helps. how does it idle? if you do a steady increase in throttle will it rev out? does it respond differently if the choke is on?

The quad starts and idles nice. If you increase the throttle slowly there is no problem. It's only with a full throttle jolt that it bogs and dies. This problem may fix itself soon...we have the motor out for a complete top end job; started smoking like a bugger!

sounds like a jetting problem to me as well try going up on the main as suggested above
