picked my first trike up on the 22nd of july, and snagged this diamond in the rough for $250 lol
what was going through my head;
when i first saw it:drool:
now:crazy:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/gottasmallface/honduh/IMG_0089.jpg

this thing had been ridden alot and frequently it seems. still has the ignition switch and key but its not hooked up and its pretty ragged. like the rest of the bike. bent forks, dry rubber, no brakes and it smokes like a chimney.
along with an assortment of poor/lack of maintenance. all bearings were siezed and seals just chewed apart. again.... what was i thinking.

rode the hell out of it for a week or so and ran like hell with no compression, cant wait to get some rings in it.

want to first give thanks to the member 200x350xtriz250 for supplying me with some tank things and new fenders. really helped the looks and motivation. big thanks!

within no time it looked like this

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/gottasmallface/honduh/IMG_0101.jpg

couldnt get the rear axle out of the swingarm, tried it all. ended up taking the rear axle to a shop press to get the hub off the right side. no dice. ended up having to cut the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotr ailpro off. purists, no fear, the axle was junk anyways.

a 1985 200x rear axle was the solution, that will be here the 19th. more info on that when it gets here and in.

that next night:

thanks man, the swinger was red factory. ive just got a thing for white.
and funds? lol i have tried to rehabilitate everything and rebuild. and the seat actually came with the trike when i bought it! i dont believe in new parts when i dont have to. little elbow grease, paint, and polish will go a little ways. i did buy the good paint though haha!

thanks, i like the white but didnt want to get crazy. the red is rustoleum sunrise red. and the wheel is on right, just the tire is on backwards.

Looking great! I love white swingers too.........

The 86/87 trike are very well built, they handle well, look great but have less aftermarket products out there. In time, there may be more.

Be careful of 3rg gear, the 87 had a thing for breakage of them because the ratio change made parts thinner. The 86 didn't seem to have a gear shifting problem in that area so I'm unsure why they changed it.........

I've got 2 87 motors with broken 3rd gears.

Wow! You're showing her alot of love. Looks good!

Here's an option for an exhaust. I cant speak for how it performs but for $119 its a pretty good deal for a new exhaust.

obijuan
08-16-2010, 10:40 PM
thats why i bought the damn new caliper, my bracket was all wallered out and danglin off practically.

seabass, thanks. ill do some diggin on that exhaust to see if its something i want to buy. i want a nice quiet sound. puttputt puttputt puttputt puttputt BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

sooo i stuck my floor jack handle in the rear carrier to get a feel for the new rear axle width, i am pleased. pretty close under the fenders but slightly wider.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/gottasmallface/honduh/IMG_0131.jpg

i got a little carried away tonight, dont know what im doing. gotta make a trip to honda and see if they got a couple seals on the shelf, if not its ebay FTL.

missing something??? lol wth was the previous owner thinking?
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/gottasmallface/honduh/IMG_0132.jpg
dropped a head stud nut allllllll the way in the bottom. also noticed the oil drain plug is stripped out, so much to where i can just pull it out with my fingers.

Really nice work. Did you spray bomb the frame or paint it with a gun? Looks good either way!!!

obijuan
08-17-2010, 12:23 PM
thats all spray can you see there. looks good in the picture, but its really a "5 footer". its a rider so i dint go through the trouble to sand down smooth all the scratches on the belly or sides. im gonna re scratch it anyways. just gave it a good sand and scrub and sprayed it.

and now that ive got a monual, i can attempt to put this motor back together. still waiting on my gasket set though.....

Nice looking bike there! Glad you liked the plastic...looks liked it cleaned up nice for you. FYI - that DG exhaust is going to be pretty loud - if you want quiet try to find a stock exhaust or a supertrapp.

this is a 1987 200x rear swinger carrier and bearings, with a 1985 200x rear axle, sprocket hub and rotor and hub. also using 85 hubs on my 87 wheels. i ground off the hub centric tabs and used my lug centric lug nuts for my 87 wheels. also use the 84 250R seals. iand presto! its done.

went out to east texas last weekend for the maiden voyage of the 87 with a couple other guys. i got the top end finished on monday and i headed out on wednesday. was chompin at the bit there for a little while. had some carb trouble and there were some deposits Texaskev cleaned out real good. he also wired up my headlights and my key switch to work perfectly. HELL YEAH!

we got there and had a good time. three wheeler, guns, and beer. and dr pepper!
there were a few more shootums than pictured.

didnt get too many pics but yall can imagine i suppose. the 87 rode great and didnt really have any problems beside that little oil leak.

You did a fabulous job bringing the old girl back but I gotta be honest with ya I just ain't sold on the round headlight's and no fork boot's.Sorry but I just had too say that,it's just me being anal I guess.I think you did a great job on the machine by all mean's though. So what exactly did you have too do to the motor anyway's and do you have any future plan's for the machine other than just riding it...Thanx for sharing also...

obijuan
11-29-2010, 09:37 PM
well as for the headlights and boots=$$$$$$

i really like the round lights and theyre are good and bright. finding and paying good money for a nice headlight that im gonna smack into trees sounded pretty ridiculous to me, fork boots are probably a good idea, but i see them holding moisture and mud.

for the motor, all it NEEDED was a set of rings and the bore was usable as is but i had it done.
bore and hone, new piston and rings, cut the valves and seats, new valve seals and thats about it. just a good top end job.

its fun as it is and plenty fast, so i think im just gonna ride it and ride it some more.

what good is a "piece of history" with a motor, if its only seen shiny on the internet. i can rebuild it, i have the technology lol
