Are your sprockets worn? Chain streched?

Having your chain come off is an indicator of a problem. Worn sprockets or chain, bad bearings in the rear carrier. Check your sprockets for hooked or broken teeth. Check your rear bearings for side to side play. If you find nothing, put your chain back on and the tensioner, and check to see how loose your chain is.

on the 85 110 the tensioner is on the rear of the bike. you loosen the carrier (4 bolts) and there is a small tensoiner on the bottom left as you tighten that up it tightens the chain. 82 and older use that spring loaded thing

on one of my 110 atc's, a guy welded one of those thru the frame tensioners because all of the other 90's were that way.

I later realized that that particular 110 had a rear axle that totally swings on 2 17mm bolt pivots to tighten the chain.

pls also check all the other suggestions re:
alignment and sprocket wear etc.

if those chains jump off the front sprocket, they can either break the case up front and or lock up the rear wheels at whatever rate of speed.

I had a numbnutts friend named Chelsea come flying by as I screamed TIGHTEN your chain, and she yelled ITS OK.. as she

flew out onto the paved section of road and the chain jumped and locked up the rear tires
INstantly. Took me about 3 days to figure out how to fix it without full disassembly and ALL my prybars.

Those are the people who can get really hurt and give trikes a bad name.

pretty sure I've found manuals and such on 'world class help' here on tis site.
owners manual may be easier to read if chain adjustment is in there.

Yeah, here's a list of things to check:

-Make sure the chain fits all the way around all 3 of the sprockets nice and snug.
-Make sure all of your sprockets are in good condition.
-Make sure your chain can only move a max of 20mm, or 10 up and down.

i believe the 110s after the year 1984 did not come with chain tensioners stock. i might be wrong. But with no suspension you really dont need one. new chain and sprockets and properly adjusted and lubed shouldnt have any problems for 20+ years, i know mine didn't. so its probably time for new sprockets and chains, but if they are in good shape just tighten your chain

It's needed. Chains aren't all the same length ;)

i might have the wrong idea here, but to me a tensioner is like a spring loaded sprocket or roller that pushes down on the chain to keep the chain tight on the 2 drive sprockets. And i know mine does not have one. But if you guys are talking about something else than never mind lol
If your just talking about the machine's ability to have to chain tightened by having an adjustment on the rear axle then thats what i meant by tightening the chain.

Here's a pic of the chain tensioner on my 1980 110. It is not spring loaded, it's adjustable by the lever on the opposite side that runs through the chassis.

(the spring behind the tensioner lever is for the foot brake)

Took them with my SLR, so as to prevent any unclear confusion ;)

so, to the original Thread starter. If your sprockets look to be in good shape try tightening your chain with the axle adjustment (get a manual for instruction) and if you can't seem to get it tight with that then your chain is probably stretched and needs to be replaced. In my experience, by the time the chain is bad the sprockets will be bad too.
Getting the front sprocket off is also quite the project, you will have to take the side cover off and the sub tranny. so also see a manual for instruction. If you need a manual send me a PM
