Spotted an XR350R in the local classifieds earlier this week and I couldn't pass it up. Seems to run great and will be the perfect trail-bike around the farm.
Anyone know if the oil filters from an '86 350X will work on this bike?
If you see anything that requires urgent attention, let me know... otherwise I'll do the usual (drain the tank/carbs, change the oil, clean the filters, and ride!!).

Is it just me, or does that engine have 2 cylinders?
Anyways, nice find.

The '83 and '84 models were weird beasts - single cylinder dual carbs!! The '85 model switched to single carb...

not sure, id look up the head gaskest to see, if numbers the same then yes. i person love the RVFC motors, they run hot cuz people done run the piss out then, i had a 84 and 85 200r with dual carb...it had more power then my 87 xr200r and still had more then my 02 thats bored. they are heavy bikes but the 500r is eve cooler...i person like the 200's for my size cuz they just fun woods bikes! cant beat a orange and blue XR!!!!!!

ahhh the lovely 84's...RFVC :D
Single cylinder..dual carb..dual exhaust outlet..
I used to have a cherry 500...all the way down to the original grips, tires, and tool bag.
Let's just say..you have to have MAJOR KAHONES to ride that beast...you have to ride that thing sitting on the dam gas tank I swear!(I weight 215lbs, 6ft 1"..)
Wheelie 4th gear no problem...STRAIGHT BEAST.

i bet your right, i road a 600 and it was nothing that i need balls to ride...just had alot of torque but didnt wheelie cuz they ungodly heavy...im 5'6" 135lbs.
a 125 seemed to have more power. either way i still like the xr's for trail riding...perfect farm feild toy.

Your right, but when I was 14 years old..riding a bike that I barely could stand up on..then getting use to it..and by the time I was 17...I could ride the crap out of that...still on the gas tank.
The 84s are alot different then both of you think...your pumping a shitload of gas in it with the dual carbs...and that 500 didn't weight THAT much.
Maybe it's just me though?
I never rode a cr500..but rode a 250 2 smoke..and man those are fast! I prefer my 450 though

Here's my first ride on it (filmed last month but didn't get around to uploading it to youtube until today). Just a quick ride to warm it up so I could change the oil.

honestly, i like my CR250 for the woods. if your nice to it and lug it around (which it has plenty of power to do just that) you can go hours on a tank. but its so light, and then theres the top end of the powerband for the hills.

You mind me asking what you had to pay for your bike? My Dad wants me to sell his 85 350XR and I was wondering what they have been selling for. Thanks

Here in Ontario Canada I see XR350R's sell regularly for $800-$1400 depending on year and condition. The '85's sell for more because they are the only year with single carb and other updates (ie rear disc brake too I believe). I got mine for $800, but it's an '84 with dual carbs and rear drum brakes.

Guy had it listed at $1200, After i talked to him he said hed take $900 for it. I offered him $800 but he said he couldnt do it, so i offered $840 and i brought it home.
Like Xhumeka said you should be able to get a little more for an 85 depending on the condition.

I had a 1983 when they first came out. I raced it for our Local Honda shop ! First year bike they had problems with Motor getting to Hot. I got my bike so hot Melted the Oil dip stick. Honda paid for New Motor and Put a Big oil cooler on it for me. I raced Blackwater 100 with it ! Wow what a race ! They did find problem with some wires in motor that made it heat up. I even ran amsoil . Made the oil boil in the motor . Still Great bike to race in the woods . My next bike was xr600

Thanks guys, I figured 800.00 would be a pretty good figure but Dad is thinking a little higher. It is an awesome bike to ride, but it has been collecting more dust than miles lately. I will post some pics soon. Thanks again guys.

I got some free dirt bike tires today and was wondering if a 80/100-21 tire would fit on my xr350? The bike currently has a 3.00-21 up front. I also got 2 90/90-21's but i know for sure those will fit because thats the original size from factory for the front wheel.

Picking a color can be kinda hard though since they dont have a chart or anything. I just asked for royal blue, its darker than my seat cover but its fine. If you buy one, the best thing to do i think would be to take a pic of your seat and send it to the seller, and ask him to send you the bag in the closest possible match.
