I have a 350X, It was out of whack when I got it I had to sync the carb change the gas and plug and it fired
right up no problem. it seemed to be getting warmer than what i thought it should so i parked it till another
day. I ajusted the carb where it seemed right, still got hot feeling. when I shut it down the next time It wouldn't do anything, no spark. So I had to replace the stator I picked up one on ebay for a 86 350 went to put it in and cracked the cover. under closer inspection I found that 2 companys produced this part. one was slightly larger than the
other I hadn't changed the flywheel out so when I put the other in it was a hair larger than the other. So I
changed the flywheel out as well put some gasket seal on the cracked cover and together it went. Drove it
again and I could tell it still wasn't exactly right so I took it to a guy I know to see if he could do something
with it. He changed out the spark plug lead ( he said it was bad )and tuned the carb up( cleaned it) he said could be the stator so I bought the original one that it had and changed it back out. It still runs little hot after it runs
for about 10 mins. checked the oil cooler and oil pump they are good, Any clues? Steve

It's over at my friends shop so I don't have the plug in hand so it may be a little before i get a picture of it, hopefully he hasn't trashed it. I told him to change it out cause I was concerned that when I ran the other stator in it that it may have damaged the plug. Someone suggested that my timing could be off by a hair, Because it was starting very easy ( sitting on the seat one kick ) The guy I bought it from was tinkering with it and I don't believe he knew too much about it, seeing how he never synced the carb. The plug turned brownish on the outside of the plug at the bottom of the boot within 1-2 hrs of run time. Hopefully this will help! Thanks Steve

They run very hot anyway, but it's worse in hot/humid weather. Slow trail riding in hot weather is bad, air cooled thumpers need some air flow and air cooled 2 strokes need to get some decent air through the radiator........

Is the plug very light or close to a white color? Like Eric said, a plug pic would be great.

I don't believe you can adjust your ignition timing so I doubt thats an issue. You may be running lean though; Are you using the airbox lid and oiling your air filter? K+N breath allot and make for a leaner condition, do you have one or are you stock or UNI equipped??

How hot was it outside while you were running??

EDIT - I didn't read "brownish" so you ought to be AOK jetting wise. Is your speed up or are you lugging through trails?

The Carb has a cable that runs to the carb and inside the carb is a peice that must be spread on the right side of the carb to ajust the air fuel ratio. That is what I was refering to when I said sync, I also have a 95 sea-doo Gtx in which I have to sync the carbs. I get my lingo screwed up from time to time, sorry about that.

It was 95 or so when I was running it , but I do have a K & N on it that may be it.

Sounds like it running way lean

slightly off topic but not really.

did I see an oil dipstick for honda trikes that had a temp gauge

stuck in the top somehow?

K + N breath very well, esp. with the lid off so I'dimagine you have a lean condition.

WHATS THE PLUG SAY!!!!!!!!!

Im definitely gonna say your running lean also

Do you hear the grasshoper at your feet?

You've got a long way to go. The comment about "syncing" the carb is enough for those who know, that you don't. Sounds like you are doing the typical damage somone who doesn't fully understand something. How exactly did you "check" the oil cooler and pump?

In any case, a actual temp reading is required when diagnosing operating temp problems. On a air cooled engine, typically oil or CHT is used for a reference. A laser temp gun may also be used. A air cooled engine is going to run a different temps depending on the ambient air temp.

Please don't screw the thing up. You are one carb short for a "sync".

hate to tell you this, but he was right about syncing the carb. the 350x carbs had a slide and butterfly valve in them. you have to make sure they are synced up or the butterfly will open before the slide letting in more air before you let in more fuel. which can cause a lean condiditon...

i concure with the rest of the guys suggesting checking your jetting

I get a kick out of the guy way up top saying that 2 stroke air cooleds need to get some air through the radiator! ITS AIR COOLED, DUDE!
