I'd like to get more power out of this thing, but I'm not to sure of a few things.
Starting with the easier things..
Reeds: I have the stock reeds on this, where can I find carbon fiber? I know i can get fiberglass
Carb: I have a spare Mikuni 34mm carb off a 95 polaris 400l Xplorer, any thoughts? Stock is 24mm.
Head: How much can I mill down?
Pipe: Anyone know of a pipe that fits this or will a mod/create my own be needed? - I've got the stock pipe with built in silencer.
I haven't upgraded the cylinder to the 1978 IT175 yet, but that is on the to do list.
Any pics around here of the protec suspension? I might try my own mod if i got a pic to model it off of.

That should get you to my Pro Tec Thread. Let me know if you need an exhaust, I may be able to help you. I really don't know if there is a difference between fiberglass and carbon fiber reeds, but I can tell you that even new stock reeds are generally better 20+ year old stock reeds. LOL A nice rebuild with new gaskets and seals and bearings and new rings will generally be a major improvement. A stock 175 clutch can be a problem and the 82 and 83 clutches are slightly different. That is really why I want to go to the manual clutch. Well, that and a manual clutch takes better advantage of more power and is way more fun than the stock semi auto cluch. I mean, ride a 200s and a 200x and tell me which is more fun.

The Pro tec looks awesome. Doubt anything like it could be found for a nice low price. Might have to fabricate somthing similar:-p
I replaced the engine last week, so I have no idea if its an 82 or 83, any tips to find out this info? What bike(s) bottom end do i need to make it a manual?

Check the engine serial number.
82 starts with 5v7.
83 starts with 20e.

Sadly, There are very few cheap nice parts or trikes. It always seems to me if I get a "bargain", it often needs alot done to it which means spending more money. And sometimes, I find that a certian part or parts can be very hard to find. So you usually end up spending the money sooner or later. If you have the space and patience, a "project" isn't too bad, but if you would rather ride, then spend money up front for a nice trike. The Pro Tec kits, I've had 4 and sold 3 others to board members on here. Each one has had parts that needed to be fabbed. I've never bought a kit yet that was "complete" as they came when new. It took me getting my first 2 Pro Tec kits to have enough parts for 1 near complete kit and the other 2 kits after that still needed parts fabbed. The one part I've never found with any of the kits is the chain tensioner wheel. If I had one to go by, I could fab others. The nicest one I've seen done yet is the Tecate Kids trike. But I know Lou Mielke has raced his Pro Tec kit and I think it was still a 125 then.

What about carbs? how large can i go stock? I do plan on getting/creating a new pipe, but i have a few differnt sizes on hand. I've got the stock carb, 1 off another trike (forget the size), a 32mm off a xl250s enduro, couple of 34mm, and a few at my dads place, many differnt sizes.
I have the ported cylinder, thinking about adding triple exhaust ports it now, added 2 boost ports already, opened the intake up to flow better. I hear the IT has better porting from the factory, but i got no cash for 1 at the moment, a pic would be nice so i could mimic it.
I also got carbon fiber reeds now, friends in composite classes rock :-D

If you have a drill and a really sharp bit you can probably add 10 or 15 more exhaust ports, but it won't necessarily make the trike run any better. Why don't you really get all your parts first, put the trike together and then see about making it run better. Makes just a tad more sense to me anyways. A good rebuild does wonders for engine performance. And I really don't know what your skill level is, but there is alot to making a 2 stroke exhaust pipe. People can put holes in anything and call it porting. I've seen people port engines to the point that they were junk, 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Call me a cynic if you must or worse if it makes you feel better. If you really are low on funds, I would advise you to concentrate on getting the bare minimum bits to get your trike together. You can get fancy later and still have the stock parts to fall back on. Don't put your trike together backwards. It's frustrating and no fun and will kill a project quicker than duck diarrhea. A yt175 is usually enough of an insane wheelie machine as it is.

Porting the cylinder out, added boost ports, triple port exhaust to yamaha blaster... MAN that thing came to life, then ported another and DAMMN it came to life too lol. I've got a spare cylinder with some portting done on it, gonna do a little more.
I've got a porting program that appears to help out alot, costed a little $$.. but i haven't used it lol
For a pipe, i was thinking bout just grabbing a pipe for another bike(close to same CC) and making it fit. Trike runs fine as is, just want the usual, more power.
I've got all the mathmatical formulas for making 1, just not all the numberts i need yet. Math is 1 thing I am good at.
I have extra of everything except the pipe, but as mentioned, ill probley get another pipe and make it fit.
