Seems like summer just began and now the geese are flying, leaves are changing and frost is just around the corner( 3 degrees C tonight). I leave for moose hunting in about three weeks, can't wait. We shoot the big buggers out of canoes while floating rivers; we definitely work for the meat but it's worth it. I'll post some pics (hopefully) of what we get. I'm hoping my 15 year old son drops one!

I seemed like it was gettting to be that time of year around here, but the last few days have been 30 degrees celsius.
Can't wait for it to cool down and for bird and deer season to start!

Dug the bow out yesterday and put it in the truck, going to hit the range tomorrow... Got my 7mm mag out the other day to stretch its legs a little, just for fun, new scope on the way for it... (no need till Nov.) Yeah, you could say I am starting to get the itch...

a bit of an itch here, but not much as its has been in above 90 degrees here that last 4 days running! that kinda kills the hunting itch quick! besides, i still have ALOT of firewood to process before i can take the rifle instead of the chainsaws in the woods with me......

Holy crap I was a little off with the temp last night. We hit 1 degree with frost. Brrrrrr! The northern lights were out in all their glory though. Never get tired of looking at them. Good luck to all ...remember hunting is never "catch and release" and eating meat is not healthy.........for the animal you just killed!

I am getting itchy myself.Getting my Hoyt Maxxis 31 zeroed in.Plus the game cameras have been getting good results. With the antler restrictions there is some really nice bucks.Plus the land I hunt we are pretty selective and it is paying off.The deer population is coming back some alsos.A few weeks ago I saw what has to be one of the biggest bucks ever.Bad problem is others have seen it too.Plus he is crossing the main road.If one of those damn water trucks takes him I will be mad.One bad thing is our two year old 1 1/2 acre food plot is shot. They just ate the hell out of it,going for 3 acres plus next year. Also the minerals that I put out seem to be helping. Here in Pa. we can shoot bears the last week of the archery season. There has been at least 6 different ones this year.Only problem the smallest one has stuck around, and a sow with cubs.I saw at least 25 different bucks in archery season last year. All the good ones where always out of range. In rifle season about 15 different ones.I shot a nice 8 on the last day at 2 o-clock of the rifle season.

Well my archery season may be interrupted. They still haven't laid the cable out through woods for the 3D seismic testing. So There will be a bunch of mexicans stringing cable out through the woods and helicopters flying around. It was supposed to be done in May,great.

There is seismic testing done around here all the time being one of the "dirty oil" hotspots in the world and it doesn't seem to bother the animals long term. I find it opens up nice shooting lanes and quad/trike trails.

hopefully your "mexicans" will get the deer up and moving...not so good in bow season but can come in handy once gun seasons starts up....i havent even got my bow out this year yet hopefully i get a chance...im more excited about getting the beagles out and let them do their thing... i love watching (hearing) them work.

i hear ya brapp....we have property in clarion county...Salem twp to be exact and the last 6 years or so the deer population seem to have dropped signifigantly..it isnt like it used to be..alot of people blame the amish that have moved in recently but i blame all the bonus tags PA sells....(which i am as guilty as everyone when it comes to wanting to drop a bambi or 2)

jays375
09-12-2010, 08:42 PM
The bonus tags did do it.Go back and look at the records on Pa. Game Commision web site. When they started issuing all those tags the harvest went way up.Past few years the deer are coming back. Most people finally figured it what happend to them. This year is the first I noticed that there is even alot more big doe.People need to layoff shooting the little doe.To shoot a deer just to fill out a tag isn't a good thing.Plus alot of people got disgusted and quit hunting. The people who only hunt three days are giving it up.Which isn't a good thing either. If people aren't using guns they don't really care about them. That is when the anti-gunners move in.Another thing that backfired is there isn't enough buck to breed the doe that are around.

Jerm1179
09-13-2010, 08:31 AM
in our area (2D) to shoot a buck it needs to have atleast 4 points on one side....so it seems they are trying to let more bucks mature which definately needs to happen...but they dont seem to give a damn about the doe..they sold a second round of fricken bonus tags this year...ridiculous

jays375

Well the stands are in place. They laid down the 3d testing cable Thursday. So the mexicans and the helicopter is gone for now.Don't know how long before they come back for it though.I have a good feeling on my main stand pick.It is a huge oak flats and it is busy, eating the acorns as quick as they fall. There isn't whole lot laying on the ground.Haven't gotten any big buck on the Cudddeback but alot of doe and smaller bucks.Which this is a very good thing. The flats funnels down on one end and that is where my stand is.All that is left is to shoot my broadheads out of my new Hoyt Maxxis.

Watched a huge chocolate colored bear with a white patch under its chin the other day at 50 yards for 5 minutes eating green feed. Wish I had a bang stick with me...or camera. A small black bear ate my bird/suet feeders at my campsite. No shooting allowed in there though. I leave for moose hunting on Thursday. Had some fresh moose steaks the other night. Can't wait to get on the river!

I can honestly say this is my worst archery season ever! Those damn mexicans and helicopters screwed the whole works up.They started the 3D seismic testing around my house about two weeks before archery season opened.I couldn't believe the amount of lines they strung all over the place.Guess I am in a pretty hot area for natural gas.So the next thing will be drilling and pipelines all over the place.Which will probally ruin next years hunting.Everyday they were in the woods doing something.Think they finished up Friday. The helicopter flew all afternoon picking up the cable. All I can hope for is the deer move back in before rifle season.I had really high expectations this year, dropped the wad on a new bow even.Plus scheduled alot more time off from work this season.Pre-season game cam pictures showed alot of good buck in the area.On a average during the rut I would see 6-8 buck in the morning. At night would see 5 different ones.Plus alot of doe. This year I saw about 6 doe total and only one buck.It was a nice one at 50 yards.Hopefully something will turn around in the last two weeks of the season.

Check out this thread http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?119630-Back-from-Moose-Hunting

Actually you would be surprised what a canoe can carry! We skin the animal completely and leave behind the ropes, winches etc. We always repeat the trip each day so leaving stuff behind is no problem. We had to leave a cow moose behind one evening because of darkness and having to negotiate rock/rapids. We just covered it with a tarp, left a couple of coats on it and the wolves left it alone thank god. We did shoot a small wolf off the gut pile two days later ;-) I'll try to scan some old pics and post them; It's a very rewarding hunt.
