OK i have a 1985 honda 250sx that is in really nice condition. i want to go faster and have a sportier look but i dont have the money to make mine look that way. but a guy wants to trade me a 1986 honda 200x that is in just as good of shape as mine or maybe a little less good and he wants to give me $100 and he said he will bring it to me. he lives 2hr 30 min away. so it sounds like a good deal.... but i want to know what yall think i should do. only problem with mine is a leak on the gas tank and the brake cable for the back brakes is broke.. and the only problem with his are that the previous owner cut the fenders down to make them skinnier but he did a really good job. and the only other problem is his needs brake fluid for the front brake. or at least thats what he told me. so what do yall think i should do? also i would like to know the top speeds on these trikes. and if anyone has a speedometer for either of them

Could you post pics of both bikes? And I think a 250sx tops out at about 50-60mph maybe a little more depending on the riders weight. As for the 200x about 58-67 and maybe a tad bit more depending on the rider's weight.

It's VERY unlikely that it "just needs brake fluid" for the front brake....otherwise, he would have "just" added brake fluid so that the front brake would work. 99.99% chance that he knows it needs more than "just" brake fluid.

I'd say its a pretty fair deal. His 200x is a little rough on the edges I'd say. If he could do 150-175 on his end + 200x I'd go for it.

If speed matters, REGARDLESS of what people say; My unmodded 86 200X blows the doors off the modded, hi comp piston, mid range cammed 250SX. All the weight, rolling resistance, auto shift. Great features along with reverse, but it doesn't make it very fast, doesn't get there fast and has ample suspension for that type machine but I bend and break SX's when I treat them like a 200X...........

2 completely different animals.

Top speeds are hard to nail down due to tire changes and gearing changes. Yes, the SX might go 55-60 with 25" tires but it'll take awhile to get there, meanwhile my 20" holeshots will be cracking gears past ya.

I absolutely love all the upgrades and features on the 86/87 200X.

Have had a couple of both.....and IMO the 200x will absolutely destroy the 250sx in the trails and hills in stock form. Really depends how and where you ride if the reverse is an added bonus for ya'???? The SX is very heavy and not very stable like the 200x. Way more mods for cheap than sx as well, pretty much...the 200x is a little version of big brother 350x as I see it. I loved my 200x in the trails!! Felt so comfortable and it was very light and nimble to try some really stupid hills and trails. If you ride very hard....go for the 200x, you will mangle the SX trying to jump it and ride it as hard.

thank all of yall for the replies. and he also threw in some more stuff on the deal if i do it. he said he would bring it to me, fix the brakes, give me the stock gold wheels and the ones that are on it, a brand new smaller sprocket that is still in the box, and the $100 and i also found out it has a dg rcm exhaust

Unless theres something wrong with the 200x id say thats a great deal. Put some nice fenders on the back and you'd have a good looking x.Yes the x will smoke a sx no problem. Only down side I could see is parts for a 2nd gen 200x are harder to find and more expensive than you 250sx. Just take that into consideration when you ride/ inspect it.

Well i traded the 250sx for the 200x and i am really glad that i did. the 200x is amazing. it has great throttle response and you can really feel the power. this thing flies. it also hooks up really good on a takeoff. i am really pleased with the trade. only problem with me is after 4 hours of riding it i got used to it so it became slow to me lol. so i am thinking about buying a 200x motor from a guy i found on craigslist that has already been rebuilt with all performance parts.
