Its a Helm & Sons hub kit, vintage 80's from Phoenix, AZ.
I don't know what model that one fits, but they had them for ATC90, 110, 185, 200's
They may have had them for ATC70's and other trikes I can't remember,,, I have long lost their catalog or I would post it.
We had one on a tricked out Honda ATC110, I believe you press out the stock studs & install them??? (If they come out)
I think we used some modified stock rear hub studs off something we put wheel spacers on. (May have been a 1982 250r)
Cool find, NOS blister packed!

I saw that when it went through Ebay. I almost bid on it but didn't need it. lol I would say well bought.
It is similar to the 3D front hub. You just use regular bolts for studs.

I had a real nice stock hub but I thought I would go ahead and bid on this one. As it turns out, no one else bid on it. The hub looks much lighter than stock and all the spacer tubes are aluminum. I just wish I had the money to bid on the PCCC wheels that went across ebay at about that time.

Picked up this little jewel off Craigslist recently, engine serial # says it’s a ’77 ATC90 but the seller had no idea of its internals or true cc size. All that’s known was it had an aluminum Pauter cylinder ( that’s why I wanted it ) and the very cool accessory electric start, never seen one. Seller wanted to keep the Super Trap exhaust but I talked him out of it. Has a few other cool aftermarket items too, well worth the trip to purchase. Does anyone have knowledge of or maybe the installation instructions for the “John Johnson” starter setup?

I think that is one of M.T.C.'s suspended 90-110 frame. They made a couple of different styles. Too bad the swing arm is missing....I would say good luck finding an original one. May have to see if you could have one made.
Great find none the less!

thanks for the info on mtc. it looks real close to a pic 90crazy posted in 2010 of a old school advertisement. Unfortunately its not too clear, i imagined il have to make a rear end. if I can find more info il make a replica if not then il try and fab something that looks period correct.
it came with a set a of chromed for the look oem but im not convinced someone would chrome oe forks so im thinking they maybe like the HD ones posted in this thread. any distinguishing features to tell if they are aftermarket?
Joseph Farrow
12-29-2015, 01:23 PM
Look at the forks on Mr. Cleans Blue bike. They appear to be chromed stock forks. The forks on HairyJR's bike are definitely HD. They look the same as stock but are a little larger diameter.
Joseph Farrow
12-29-2015, 01:41 PM
MTC used to be ATC Incorportated. I guess the whole "ATC" thing did not fly well with Honda. lol
Here is the frame. The swing arm itself appears to be like the later style. A little different since the shock runs under the main frame. JWheeler picked up one of the later styles out of AZ not long ago. He could probably send you some better pics.
225534
Here is the later style. (Look past the chain tensioner and different shock mount on the first design and the swing arm looks very similar.)
225535
MTC was one of your main suppliers of HD chrome front forks. Check the diameter of what you have or post a pic.

The chrome forks on the Black ’77 ATC90 are aftermarket (mfg. unknown) HD measure 1 1/2" (@ 38mm) O.D. and oem 1 5/16" (@ 34mm) O.D.
Please add addition view pic's of your frame, may help others viewing this thread in the future.

thats the frame I have, the early M.T.C. AWESOME TO BE ABLE TO WORK OUT THE MAKE!
The forks I have are single position and seem to be like the M.T.C. ones posted, il have to measure. I noticed underneath near to where the steering stem bolt is welded in that they're stamped 1905 with hand punches. I will get some pics when I get chance to measure.
I have the shock, a white air shock however that thing is rusty as hell. The dampening rod is pitted bad, not sure if it can be saved in all honesty.
The fenders are red fibreglass, they have a label (embossed dymo style) with ATC 90 on them, the seat cover was ruined and no foam but it had press studs that mounted it to the front of the fenders. Kinda weird I thought.

With all the 110cc-140cc engines available now, I don't see any reason why someone couldn't build custom frames and start putting a racing series together.
It seems like it'd be easier now than ever to get young people into trike racing, with a lot of class options. It could be a whole aftermarket driver and create many jobs.
