sorry about the long post

i have a 1985 atc 200x that i got about in januray of this year and when i went to buy it it ran for like a minute and wouldnt start so after i purchsed it i put a new pulse genarator i think thats what is called the it it's in the stator it genarates the spark and then it ran great for a whle but it smoked sevirely like a 2stroke mixed at like 10 to 1 so soon after i bought an other atc 200x parts bike for 60 bucks ant was complete and it had a cobra exhaust all i did was put the carb from the other one and it ran well and hardly smoked any way the the chain came off as the swinger barings were shot and it seized i then un seized it then the oil drained out the cracked stator and the piston just melted any i re built the motor and i put it in and and ran for like a minute and quit then i put the pulsar coil the thing under the cdi cover attached to the cam? on and then it ran mint for like 2 weeks and in that time my dad and i went riding for about 1.5 hrs and wennt home. and then my dad and i went for another ride the week after on the trails with my dad we were out for 2 hrs and we went through a tunnel and just ripped her and mid wheelie she back fired didn't think a thing about it then i drove through a small river pretty slowly and then i was driving on a path and it quit i noticed that my gas tank was leaking through a pin hole and from then on it has had no spark i even got a new pulse genarator notthing no spark i am baffeld i have tryed the square box cdi box i think on my dads he has an 84 200m and it worked and the coil also worked and the pickup coil works i tested it on my buddies auto x so it is eather the stator or the wire harness i tested the stator but i am un sure if it was properly tested but i used a volt meter and put it on beep when the contatcts touch and tested the stator thow i did find a wire that i was unsure of i am clueless

First off Download a manual from the world class help section its has all the specs and what the parts should be tested at. Second the pulse generator is under the cdi cover and the pulsar coil is behind the flywheel cover you had them mixed up. Also the cdi box has to be from an 85 200x no others will work it may plug in but wont be right.

on a couple of my 200x`s I had a similar problem here recently...On one of them,I found that the black and yellow wires coming from the stator had breaks under the intact insulation right where it goes thru the cover....it was like a gremlin...sometimes the two broken halves of wire would make enough contact to make it run for an hour or two...sometimes just ten seconds. Then they would seperate at some point and kill the motor..the breaks were in multiple spots too so you would strip one spot back,solder,and shrink tube. then, the motor would fire right up making me think I had fixed the problem...then no spark all of the sudden

that trike also had a couple wicked backfires all of the sudden right before it would quit running

I ended up fixing three broken spots on the black wire and two on the yellow before my problem stopped.

you mention the chain jumped and cracked the cover before you had to rebuild it...those two wires are pretty close to the chain and I wouldn`t be surprised if the wires didn`t get damaged
