I just bought this 200s&the pull start is a real pain.First it will work then after a few pulls the teeth won't come back out,so I have to pull it off the bike then the cover that has the c clip on it I have to turn it (the cover)& it will last a few more pulls.Any ideas? Thanx in advance.

everything in there has to be clean and oiled.if there is rust and or dirt it will stop the prawls from coming out or retracting correctly.

^ +1 Wd 40 or a real light oil on the pawl springs it should get you going again.

I had one like it.

Even stumped the honda PARTS guy.

the pulley that wraps the rope was PLASTIC -----NOT metal like every other one in the world and it was separating so it would expand and get stupid.

Hopefully yours is just a lube issue.

I cant remember any spiffy spacers that could go flying, and make it bind up but it's also been a while since i've done the olympic recoil spring event.

maybe double check a parts fiche? for parts sequence?

I think I got so aggravated I just wrapped a rope around those ankle biting dogs to start it but was afraid to run it that way. for fear of getting my leg chewed in half.

maybe your spring just isn't quite tight enough to recoil?

I've gotten lazy redoing them and my rope dangles out 1/2 a foot or so because I didn't feel like re wrapping the spring.

There's also a good chance I don't fully understand

There's no prroblem with lubrication. Its something to do with that cover moving too much.I think.

there are two bronze washers in there and I found that one of them is about .010 thicker than the other try switching them around see if that helps you it is what I had to do to my 81 200

OK i'm gonna drop you a bit of experience here that has cost me alot of time in mastering the recoil set-up's.If you look at the schematic that is provided by Harryredtrike above you'll see #7 which is the plate with the 3 cut-out's where the dawg's pass, now if there is any indentation from wear on that plate that will deffinatly cause the dawg's to stick. Also if you have the incorrect c-clip on the top of the plate that will also make it stick and another thing are the washer's which are number'd both #9 ,if those are'nt the correct one's than believe it or not ,that can also cause a hang-up.I have had issue's with these dang recoil's time and time again for year's and basically there's no cutting corner's when doing them ,I have tried taking the easy way out in just replacing this or that and I've alway's gotten burned. My suggestion is that if you have any wear on any of those part's just bite the bullet and order up new part's because honestly you'll be saving yourself a headache in the longrun.Hope I helped ya with something
