What I don't get about the story is that the police are confused as to whether the rounds were from an "assault" weapon (HATE that term) or a large caliber hand gun. For trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro's sake, any one who has ever been around a gun can tell the difference between a shouldered rifle round or a straightwall pistol caliber. The freaking shells have the calibers usually stamped on the base!

wait a minute the parents should not automatically be locked up that's retarded.
they need to finish their investigation do background checks and interrogate the parents.
some kids who are always out of trouble and are positive have turned into a killer overnight.
or the kid could have been gang affiliated and not shown any signs parents cant keep on eye on older kids all the time and by that age their old enough to know what they did was wrong.
the parents may have had no control over their kid. what happens outside of the family has a bigger impact on a lot of kids.

Depends on what you mean by kids (ie: 11-13 years old or less) or even under 30. I mean the victims were 17 and 25, so it's presumable the shooters were at least that age?

Imagine a grown man telling his wife / spouse / even his mother if he lived with her.... "I'll be back, gunna go shoot some guys up, my boy lost his license but he got a three wheeler instead!" I just can't even fathom the idea of the debate over who got to drive, and if they complained about having a single seat and pair of footpegs????
